12 hours from Calais to Perpignan? Took me a while longer than that I must say, although it was many years ago. I had a 3 litre Volvo and didn't hang about, but it was a fxxking nightmare journey. Drove from here to Ramsgate, Hovercraft (yeah, I know) to Callais, then across France to Perpignan and down the coast to La Manga (near Cartagena) . 3600 miles there and back. I wish you luck buddy.

I'll be spending a long weekend in a cardboard box in a sewer in Slough, during which time I will be stabbing myself in the eye with a blunt pencil.

This is a huge improvement on my day-to-day life.

I hope you've put that weekend in the diary, and it doesn't clash with pop festivals or football.

I'd imagine weekend you might struggle but midweek should be ok. There's those camping sites too where you have a camp bed in a tent and breakfast and that. They're meant to be good
behave, it was my idea!

is it as good to go towards the end of the festival as it is at the beginning or middle? Just realised it conveniently lands around a couple of our 30th's - what better excuse! looking at thursday 30th sept, till sunday?

any links to said campsites?

Just a Yank version of Blackpool, but without the Tower, the sea, the Golden Mile and Yates's - and what's the point of that?

I'll stick to the Fylde Coast.

It'd be very low on my list of "places to see before I die". No, make that not there at all.

When you've been to Antwerpen and Bruges, as mentioned elsewhere, especially Bruges, you'll come back on here and admit to both your ineptitude and your folly.

Eat out in Antwerp and then come back here saying that the food's good in Vegas. I dare you - I double dare you. :D

Ha ha done.

One thing I will say for Vegas, as with much of Amercia.... Portions. Oof.

Had a 3-course set menu. Starter were't pizza. Thought I'd get a little 6-inch thing. Hell no. 10-inch beast followed by I reckon 300g of Salmon plus a fist and half of tiramisu. Couldn't move for an hour

In Antwerp most of the restaurant's are quite well to do - but not so much so that you'd ever feel unwelcome or uncomfortable. If you fancy a really Bohemian, chilled-out place that serves absolutely superb fodder then I (highly) recommend a place called The Lunchbox, which is facing the main theatre/opera house (Stadsschouwburg). I eat there everytime I'm there, I reckon you'll love it.

I was thinking 12 hrs door to door (Enfield to Aude)

Routeplanner has it at 812 miles and 12 hrs 45. Should take about 14 hrs including stops.

Ah well, times change, and chances are there are autobahns now that weren't there thirty years ago. Transports have improved too; I wore out ten pairs of shoes paddling through the car floor.

Stay out all night in the coolest smartest most tash filled bars ever, Then call in casino in the morning for brekko, eat as much as you want for 99 cents then start playing beerpong while the tourists film you! Then shoot some craps, see a stripper, and have a swim all before lunch - is why I love Vegas!

Stay out all night in the coolest smelliest, dingiest most trash filled bars ever, Then call in casino in the morning for brekko, eat as much as you want for £9 then start playing bingo while the CCTV cameras film you! Then talk some crap, see a beach full of 16 stone strippers, and have a mud bath all before lunch - is why I love Blackpool.
