Nat Lofthouse Archive Interview
There's a feature on the main BBC website at the moment with lots of archive material of interviews with and about our footballing legends.
It's probably familiar to a lot of you already, but I love the interview with Nat they have from 1995.

What an amazing, humble, heroic figure. And a fascinating window into a different era.

For a couple of seasons it was our second shirt in case of clashes, no such things as an"away shirt, or shirts" in those days.TANGODANCER wrote:Possibly one he swopped with his England team mate, Billy Wright?Gary the Enfield wrote:Can't listen to it at work so I'll check it later.
Incidentally, why is he wearing what looks like a Wolves shirt under his tracky-top?
Incidently the picture was taken at Bromwich Street with the changing rooms in the back ground. I used to enjoy going early to the games at Burnden as you could watch the A and B teams playing on the training ground as they kicked off early.
I feel reborn !!!! No more confussion

Aye, who'd have thought we'd actually see Brazil and Pele kicking balls about on Bromwich Street in little Bolton.Sir Nat wrote:For a couple of seasons it was our second shirt in case of clashes, no such things as an"away shirt, or shirts" in those days.TANGODANCER wrote:Possibly one he swopped with his England team mate, Billy Wright?Gary the Enfield wrote:Can't listen to it at work so I'll check it later.

Is that Herr Hitler on 37 seconds? You'd have though one of those soldiers might have recognised him!Athers wrote:http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=29766

And I love the first aid afforded to our Nat when he gets injured

A proper hero. No one kicking a ball in the Premiership today comes close to what a hero Nat Lofthouse is. Don't wanna get on my soapbox but comparing men like Lofthouse to the shower that represented England at this World Cup makes you realise what true football players were like. Shame is we'll never see his like again in football and that's partly what's wrong with modern football. Makes you proud to be a Wanderer.

From what I understand from speaking to Mr Gartside a few months ago, physically he's fine for his age but unfortunately perhaps many years of heading the old leather case balls (like a cannonball when wet) seems to have taken its toll mentally. He now lives most ot the time out in I think Portugal with one of his daughters.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:I'm nervous to ask, but does anyone know anything of his current state of health?
