For Bruce and any other fans of chilean Red - the Misiones Carmenere is on offer once more at Morrisons - £4.49. Bargain. :pissed:

Gin and tonic in a very short while. Then the reamins of yesterday's fish pie, with asparagus, broad beans. And a nicely chilled Portuguese white from Beiras.

On my own for 6 days - partner and daughter in London. Walking, books, and food and drink... Like being on holiday...

Roast Lamb with mint sauce in it's own gravy. Roasty taters and a Yorkshire, sweetcorn and sugar-snap peas (which I've never been able to work out the point of).

Banoffee Pud with vanilla ice-cream.

Spicy moroccan lamb in a tomato sauce. From Asda. claimed to be 'Extra Special'. It wasn't.

but the Argentinian red - a malbec/bonarda (don't know this grape) is much more special. Medium-full bodied... Spicy... Long... Very nice, even with generic fill a hole food...

I've 'discovered' a new Indian take-away in da hood (ish). There are, I'd say, three main players around here (all of which are very good, I might add) so I thought I'd give this place a runout as they'll be making an extra effort to win people over.

I can honestly say that I've just eaten (well, got halfway through) the finest Indian take-away that I've ever eaten. They'd given me three onion bhajis for nothing which were bloody lovely; crisp on the outside - light in the centre. The main that I ordered was a Lamb Balti Afghani. The dish is all basically meat and vegetables cooked with a delicious sauce, rather than a sauce with stuff thrown in it as is, sadly, often the case. An absolutely perfect balance of flavours, herbs and spices. With this I also had a garlic naan.

I've managed around half of it (so that's tomorrow's dinner sorted, too :D )

Now, no sommelier am I, but I was pretty sure that a Pinotage Shiraz would provide the perfect accompanyment, and boy do I feel smug now  <----- Me, feeling smug.

All this with Cherry Ghosts outstanding new album playing away = a wonderful end to a day in which I got pissed wet through playing a terrible round of golf. Perhaps I should just stick to eating, drinking and listening to music? Ah, hmm, well actually ........ :(

Yes, but battling the elements on a golf course, even unsuccessfully, makes those evening treats all the tastier!

Had four chilli and beef chingachangas, chips and butter beans. Before today, I'd never heard of a chingachanga. My stomach's telling me I should have left it at two.

went to new pizza express in bury's new rock development. always been a big fan of pizza express, especially when you get the 241 vouchers n'that. no such vouchers are valid on a saturday though, and we had to queue up out side f'get in, then we were placed right by the entrance lobby where the queuing public are waiting so it was like sitting in a goldfish bowl. didnt bother with starters, had two pizzas, (mine was the the Calabrese which has been tremendous at all other PE's ive visited) 2 of them big peronis, 2 wines and an ice cream to share. pizzas were cold, beer was warm, ice cream tasted of nowt 'bill please' 60 bats!! ffs.

swerve it.

Disappointing news to say the least, General. Pizza Express is the only pizza place (by way of chain) that I like/ bother with. Maybe the new Bury one will improve when it quietens down a bit.

Yeah, it's not hard to rack up a bigger number than you are expecting at PE with those Peronis at £6 a go, and wine too.

It's generally a very good chain though, maybe they'll sort it out.

Where's that then, Bruce? We always go to The Antelope if we're eating in. But we've yet to find a decent one that delivers to us. Antelope is a bit pricey for a quick and convenient take-away. The problem with all the other take-away places is they all just taste the same. Same sauce, same poor quality meat. It's like the all get it from a big f*ck off curry well in the centre of the earth... So, please don't keep this find to yourself!

That one the top of Mort Lane I think has a decent rep. (Barinda I think it's called). They don't deliver I don't believe, but they do take-aways...

I couldn't agree more, fella. This one's on the top road through Pendlebury (A666), it's called The Taste of Raj. It says here that they do free delivery within a three mile radius for orders of £9.95 and over. The place is spotless too (I'm funny about that).

I think we have a leaflet for them... I'll give it a try next time. Lamb or Prawn Saag Gosht is my current favourite choice
