Watched David Starkey's Monarchy. The idea of Queen Lizzie doing the royal wave in her pram cracked me up!

Isn't that like 4 series long or something?

I'm not sure, this was two and a half hours long and only dealt with the Windsors, so it isn't insubstantial. Very interesting though.

petty - I know - but I can't watch David Starkey do anything without the words "you mammoth knobhead" rolling around my head....

Just wasted two hours watching Anti-Trust. Sort of Hackers meets The Firm but not a patch on either.

It's a brilliant movie, directed at a stately pace by Louis Malle, with a story that leads you step by step to a devastating conclusion, ameliorated hugely, by the affirmation of human courage and generosity that preceeds it. Set in Nazi occupied france in a boys boarding school. Best I can do without spoilers. (Do you reckon that's accurate, bruce?).

But watch. Love film will have it, i think.
well that wasnt your average saturday night entertainment! i feel like those folk sat in the cinema, not sure what to do now, certainly dont fancy going to sleep!

a great watch tho, compelling from start to finish. just looked up the two child actors, thought they must have gone on to mega stardom, in France at least - but this was pretty much all they did, shame.

Glad you enjoyed, General (if that's the word). Do you know Battle of Algiers? Another film in French (and Arabic). In my top five of great films. A drama, but made as though it was a documentary, about the struggle by the Algerians against French colonial rule. This makes it sound very solemn. It is hugely moving, at times savage ('terrorism' features largely, as does torture) at other times celebratory. I have it on tape, have watched maybe ten times, seen it at the cinema three times. And still the last scenes have me close to tears. In a good way. Another not your average saturday night movie... another hugely fulfilling...

I'll watch Ronin tonight. Seen it a couple of times in the past, but it's an excellent film with De Niro and Jean Reno. 9-0 on Channel 5. Sorted.

Absolute cracking film!

I've been told by several different people that bear more than a passing resemblance to Jean Reno. Not sure if thats a good thing or not :)

Oooh - I almost bought that the other day because it's a long time since I watched it. Glad I didn't now. Cheers Tango.

Ah yes. When I first watched it I was down at a mate's in London who'd given me all the "You need to watch this" business.

As the first car chase started I blurted out "Yes, they're all well and good these car chases but they're all the same. They'll drive through a pile of empty boxes in a minute and no-one ever gets................................. feck me  ".

Not exactly a car-chase, but Gene Hackman chasing a train did it for me. French Connection.

Have to confess, Sean Bean getting his arse kicked raised a bit of a malicious grin.

Amidst all the squealing tyres and flying bullets I almost forgot about Caterina Witt. Icing on the cake.

Gave it 40 minutes. Didn't hold me. Possibly the least interesting thing I've seen de Niro do. Lotsabangs. Anything else? :conf:
