still no cap for cahil

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Its a joke really.

If I was Cahill I'd retire from international football.

Its pointless getting repeatedly picked for squads, then not getting a chance, yet seeing Wilshere and Gibbs get a game when they've made one squad at 18 years old.

I'm not saying Cahill should be picked or first choice, but if Capello puts him in the squad for a friendly like this, then surely it was his turn to get a chance.

I think if Dawson hadn't of f*ck*d up to give them the lead, he may have given him a run out in the last 5/10 mins and replaced Jagielka. Though I hate the B*st*rd, Gerrard saving the game for the Italian one and the nation may have made him think I'd better stick with this at 2-1.......................

Some seriously over-reactionary remarks on here. He'll get his chance soon enough.

Why, because he lost to a better team in the World Cup? Bring back Steve McLaren, eh? At least you got a summer off with him.

Like when?

Was Hungary not the perfect time to give him 45 minutes?

He's hardly going to throw him straight into a Euro qualifier is he?

He's picked him for quite a few squads now and he's sat on the bench without the chance to show what he can do.

I can live with him not getting picked, or even not getting "proper" games for England as thats understandable.

But if you put him in your squads for friendlies, several times, then a manager with a bit of class would have given him a chance.

Mind this is Capello who on 6M a year identified that our best chance of doing anything in the world cup was to persuade Paul Scholes to come out of retirement. So what he does is ask his assistant to give him a "ring".

6M a year?

He's 24. His chance will come. Calm down, Dear.

Do you really think so? Because like I say we're now embarking upon some Euro qualifiers. At what point is Capello likely to "give him a chance"? I just don't see it.

If he wasn't willing to play him last night in the most meaningless of meaningless friendlies despite him being in the squad several times, yet was happy to give Wilshere and Gibbs, two teenagers in their first ever senior squad a game, then I'm genuinely struggling to see Cahill get any sort of a chance.

I also think Capello is robbing the FA and therefore football in this country of 6M a year, and it makes me angry.

if that's what the FA offered him - then he can hardly be accused of robbery...

I really doubt that Capello saw last night's as being the most meaningless of meaningless friendlies though. Do you? Seriously? Far from it in fact, I'd say. And I really don't see what chucking him on for the last ten could possibly prove, other than to to perhaps destroy the lad's confidence had he slipped up, especially given all the press attention on this game.
It's a long road to 2012 and along that road I think there'll be opportunities for the lad, I'm convinced.

They offered it him on the basis he did the required job.

They've since had to ask him to "work a bit harder".

For me he's stealing a living here.

and he has - he has managed England. In what way has he not done his job?

The required job will be a bit more than turn up at games and pick a squad, and you know it!

Like any manager his job performance is judged on results.

But also by the work he puts in. Which seemingly is NOT up to the FA requirements, otherwise they'd not have had to tell him to "work a bit harder".

Right. What is it now, he's been in three squads and not got on? Clearly he must retire then.

Gary Cahill will play for England at some point. For now, the fact that Capello sees him as a definite part of his plans is good enough.
