Is it just me or is shooting stars far better than the previous series? Still miles off the original but this series has certainly been a better watch than the last abomination.

Mitchell and Webb carry on down the line of complete hit and miss. Occassionally they stray into over-indulgence at the expense of a joke most people will get, but some of the material in this series has been brilliant.
I must've missed the brilliant bits when I've tuned in to remind myself what comedy isn't.

Mind you Mitchell has never made me laugh at anything. He's a pseud and not very funny with it (although I know plenty of people disagree with me). After my last comment, that I didn't find him funny, I trawled through Youtube clips and stuff, in a voyage of exploration to find the David Mitchell funny bit. I didn't manage to raise so much as a snigger.

Shooting Stars has been pretty good. :-)
See I think Mitchell is hilarious....personal opinion and all that.

Peep show is still for me the finest comedy of the last couple of decades, though of course should be noted neither Mitchell nor Webb write it. Nothing has come close to making me laugh as much as that.

Mitchell and webb sketch shows are very much hit and miss (though what sketch shows aren't?) and by their nature I suppose are not likely to be side splittingly funny on the whole, more amusing observations.

Like this for example....

And the national lottery advert "spoof" which I can't find but was brilliant!

Im embarking on my next HBO boxset voyage this weekend, Entourage!

Got Hot Tub Time Machine to watch too. totally dismissed it when it was out at the flicks because it sounds incredibly shit, but ive been hearing some good things lately (probably because its due out on dvd?) and i reckon it could be pretty funny actually.

also a spanish thriller called Los Cronocrímenes is in my film queue too for next week.

Fallen asleep trying to watch the new Karate Kid tho, twice.

Hunger is a good film, all about the Maze hunger strikes/Bobby Sands death etc. its as you would imagine, a bit dark and brutal, but brilliant.

I can live with not side splittingly funny, just occasionally a little bit funny would be good. :-)

I'll try the you tube link shortly and report back on the level that my sides split. :-)

Maybe this has been mentioned, but....

Is anyone watching Grandma's House - the new Simon Amstell comedy?

I've been very impressed by the first two episodes. Actually laughed out loud.

The script is really tight, seems to bounce around really easily, and even if Simon's acting is questionable, it's quite hard to fail at playing yourself.

I like, anyway.

WOW!

Following a troupe of actors through these fantastic surroundings I (and my friends) were transported to a place where class and work and money and rank were forgotten and we immersed ourselves in almost 2 hours of complete escapism. Or was that tomorrow's game?
