That is absolutely wonderful. I love the juxtaposition of SIGN UP SIGN UP with the brilliant awkwardness of sentences like 'get home, have a vaccum and a tidy up (or don't if you're not that kind of person)'. It's the sort of things dads say to their teenage sons' friends, 'hey guys, what's going on, just chillaxing are we?' "Dad, please stop embarrassing me".

I just voted. :dumb:

For the Senate I wanted to number all of the candidates from 1 to 60, With Senator Stephen Conroy Last (a Chelsea Fan).
But when I finished the numbers only went up to 58
Had to get another ballot and only vote one party, voted the Sex party... Should have voted Greens :?

Now, this would be interesting.....
Westminster sources claim that the former leader of the Liberal Democrats, Charles Kennedy, has been discussing defecting to the Labour Party, with four or five Liberal Democrat colleagues. The reports have been confirmed by three separate sources, including one close to Ed Miliband’s Labour leadership campaign. Kennedy, along with others are believed to be planning some announcement towards the end of the month of August – which would also coincide with ballot papers for the Labour leadership elections being sent out to party members. It is unclear whether there have been formal or informal contacts between the Kennedy and Miliband camps.

Another Aussie disaffected with your main parties then?

I actually quite like Gillard from the little I have heard of her, apart from her republican tendencies and opposition to gay marriage (which seems to be orthodoxy in Australian politics?)

I'm surprised the Greens have made the gains they have recently in Aus, if it's anything other than a vote against the others. I appreciate that Aus might consider itself on the front line when it comes to climate change, with increasing areas of vast desert-type land, but their emissions are such an irrelevance in the global context, and the same is true of Australia's influence on the world stage to do anything about it.

And what exactly is this Sex Party I keep hearing about?!

It says I am banned from posting

A Greens Guy got voted in; the first time in a General Election.
Adam Bandt has become the first Australian Green to win a lower house seat in a general election, as he tore the seat of Melbourne from Labor hands for the first time in 106 years.

Wyatt Roy has been elected to Parliament; He is 20 years old.

Australia could have a hung parliament.
probably won't find out who wins tonight

mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote: And what exactly is this Sex Party I keep hearing about?!
The Australian Sex Party stands for policies that represent a modern Australia, like same-sex marriage, free expression and working against censorship.

Sex Party Calls Tampon Tax a Bloody Disgrace
An Australian Sex Party Senate candidate in Victoria has called on the major parties to support the removal of the GST on tampons and pads. As part of the Sex Party’s sex education policy suite, Ms Katie Blakey said that the only reason tampons and pads were included in the GST was because Parliament had determined them to be ‘luxury’ items.

Ms Blakey said that Australian women were forced to pay (on average) an extra dollar every month for pads or tampons via the GST. Per year, the GST raised from female sanitary products is over $14 million.

your opinion is one you are entitled to.. But, like it or not (and personally I think he's a bit of a buffoon - and never helped himself by becoming dahhling of the chat shows) - he is still held in very high regard by lib-dem voters - and hence his opinions do carry more weight than "that tramp who hangs about on pound shop boulevard in town" - maybe not for you and me - but significant weight all the same.

Bruce - calm yourself - you're just missing the point (for a change). Where did I say Charlie K was NOT full of worthless rhetoric? Where did I utter ONE WORD of positive opinion about the man or his ideas?

the point is this - his opinions DO carry weight - like it or not - agree with him or not - they do, because he is popular - that's all.

(and - he's not chancing his drinking arm anywhere new - he reckons he will go to his grave a Lib Dem.)

I don't mind Kennedy... so he's had his drink problems... in past eras loads did and got away with it.

We don't half come down on hard on people in the UK if a politician is at ease on a chatshow... a very British phenomenon whereby we criticise some politicians for being stiff and non-human, and others for being lightweight and too human.

Kennedy infinitely better than any of the tory-lickers in the government, and don't understand the bish's beef about him.

I want him to stay in the Lib Dems and help split them. I don't want him to lead the principled Lib Dem section into the labour party, but to drive the fake ones into their natural, tory home and allow that authentic, critical and leftist (in truth) voice to be heard, nagging at labour to cease its attack on civil liberities and its cowardice in the face of big business...

I don't have a particular beef - but I DO think he made himself look a bit of a buffoon with his HIGNFY appearances n'such...

mummy's point is well made though... (Lembit Opick (sp?) being the fly in that particular soup...)

It will be interesting to see where his stock hoes as he does appear to be positioning himself ready for a LibDem implosion and an anti-Clegg backlash...
