i don't think it needs to be celebrated at all. he's a decent lad - it hasn't worked out - I wish him all the best for the future. no need for dancing on any graves...

I'm not going to get into a grammar cock wave with you.
I think we have already established that I would win :-)

Back to the original point, I suspect it has cost us less that 4 months wages to release him.
Therefore, saving the club money.

It wasn't about grammar. It was about allegiance

I'm not celebrating the fact he's gone; just reporting it. He'll do a good job somewhere in the championship and I wish him all the best. As for a payoff, I dunno? Mutualy agreed release to me sounds like:- Danny "Can I leave the club 'cos I'm not in the squad and I don't want to stay"? PG "Oh go on then, but I'm not giving you any money" Danny " Thats ok; I've earned enough sat on my arse as it is". PG " Bye then" Danny " Bye"..................

Unfortunately, Jim Lad, you've overlooked the part that Big Dan's agent will have had in this.

He got something.

We don't know what it is.

Won't be surprised if its pretty close to his full contract.

no - it wasn't..

first you wrote:

as if you might have been talking about Spurs or someone else's club...

then you wrote...
Back to the original point, I suspect it has cost us less that 4 months wages to release him.
as if it was a club you had some connection/allegiance to.

that's all! both are grammatically correct!

Unless he's the most resonable man on planet earth, we'll have paid his contract up in full no?

So it's not really getting him off the wage bill, it's just stopping him hanging around.

Good luck Dan anyway.

No.
We will have struck a compromise deal with him/his advisors.
Otherwise what is in it for us?
