Penalty shootout. Keeper saves it. Is pleased with himself. Is then amusingly unlucky with physics...

I don't have the benefit of refereeing classes, but, since the penalty is one action and the ball is still rolling from it and crosses the line, which the goalie is supposed to prevent it doing, for me it's a goal.East Lower wrote:Should have been disallowed, if my refereeing class memory still holds.

But it did't stop going forwards did it, or it wouldn't have crossed the line. It was blocked, but not saved and it ended up in the net. Has to be a goal.Prufrock wrote:Should have been disallowed. Penalty is over as soon as the ball stops going forwards. Ref should know this. Shocking decision.

On what planet is it hitting the keeper and coming out two yards it not stopping going forwards. It's the same as ones I have seen not given where it hits the post comes back and goes in off the keeper. Of course in open play it would count, but in a penalty shootout the kick is over once the ball stops going forwards.TANGODANCER wrote:But it did't stop going forwards did it, or it wouldn't have crossed the line. Ignoring thebish's snidey attempt to be funny, the ball spun back off the keeper, but then carried on in a forwards direction and crossed the line. The referee must have seen that, he gave the goal.Prufrock wrote:On what planet is it hitting the keeper and coming out two yards it not stopping going forwards. yes it did. what direction was the ball travelling immediately after it hit the goalkeeper? did it stop going forwards?Prufrock wrote:TANGODANCER wrote:But it did't stop going forwards did it, or it wouldn't have crossed the line. You said it yourself. It isn't ambiguous. The kick is over when the ball stops going forwards. It undeniably stops going forwards. The ref got it wrong.TANGODANCER wrote:Ignoring thebish's snidey attempt to be funny, the ball spun back off the keeper, but then carried on in a forwards direction and crossed the line.
