Cahill an England international - most of second half

When fit, Terry and Ferdinand are far and away the best two we have there. However, noises indicate that Duck boy may never be fully fit again. I'd agree on Jagielka and Dawson too at the moment, though I think Jagielka and Cahill both have more natural ability to the Spurs man's stronger physique. Cahill and Dawson would be a good eventual partnership I reckon. That's ignoring the claims of Shawcross, Jones, and Rodwell too. Not looking too shabby in those areas.East Lower wrote:Completely agree about his form this year - I thought he let his standards slip last season, and I'm very glad indeed that he seems to be back on track now. I think he's definitely better than the likes of Upson and Lescott (who isn't?), but wouldn't have him better than Jagielka or Dawson for England just yet.Prufrock wrote:I don't understand why everyone seems to me to be blinded by the relative abilities of Knight and Cahill. Knight's poor start and his resemblance to one of those inflatable tube men they always have at the Nou Camp, which makes a mistake seem constantly imminent, mean a game without a f*ckup is counted as a 'good game'. Cahill it seems has to perform like a cross between Bobby Moore and Franco Baresi to even get an acceptable. Expectations are high, but IMO he's pushing Muamba and Elmander as our best player so far this season.
It's just a shame that as soon as Ferdinand and Terry are fit that they'll walk back into the team.

Now the question is.....will Muamba ever be considered?
I admit he's a not he best on the ball, but neither are a lot of 'ball winners', and there aren't many better in the PL at doing just that, than our Fab.
Plus, he's had a really decent U21 career already.
Get your finger out Capello!!!

Yes, if only we were Wigan or Blackburn, or Stoke, or Sunderland, or Birmingham, or Blackpool, or West Brom ... THEN we'd be glamorous.Prufrock wrote:True though innit? Bit of a self-fulfilling statement though I reckon.Bruce Rioja wrote:the not-so-glamorous Bolton Wanderers football club

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Was Upson even on the bench when Dawson got hurt?boltonboris wrote:If the rumours a true, Upson had a right old spat at the management after he found out that he wasn't starting the match, hence the reason Cahill came on and not Upson. Tomorrow night we'll see if Capello has the cojones to leave him out again, or risk another player 'retiring' because he's not as good as other people at his job. If he has this attitude problem and he's called off the bench because of an injury, he'll be in no fit state to come on and perform. Capello needs to figure out which defender to upset.. Cahill or Sir Matthew of Londontonas wrote:Matthew Upson plays for West Ham.
West Ham are a club in East London.
Fabio would sooner pick (the shockingly bad) Upson than upset the media and pick (the much better) Gary Cahill.
I have no doubt whatsoever that Upson will start. But then again, I had no doubt whatsoever that he'd come on for Dawson!

That article tries to be sympathetic but it is correct, we aren't 'glamorous'. We weren't glamorous when we had Djorkaeff, Okocha, Campo, Hierro, Stelios, Anelka, and European football, so we're fooked now. It's grim up north.

That's the thing, now. I'm not sure. He was definitely in the squad, although Capello has said today that it's between Cahill and Lescott, who starts alongside Jagielka. No suggestion that Upson is injured, so it looks as though Upson has no future in the England team. Thank god!Montreal Wanderer wrote: Was Upson even on the bench when Dawson got hurt?
I'm not sure if Lescott was on the bench against Bulgaria either and if he wasn't, it has to be because of fitness. Therefore, it'd be rather crass of Capello if he chose Worf over our Gary..

Upson wasn't, nor was Lescott. Our team was England: Hart, Glen Johnson, Jagielka, Dawson (Cahill 56), Ashley Cole, Walcott (Adam Johnson 74), Gerrard, Barry, Milner, Defoe (Young 87), Rooney.boltonboris wrote:That's the thing, now. Been injured, but that does;t stop somebody from a billybigclub (TM) getting into the England squad undeservedlyBruce Rioja wrote:boltonboris wrote:That's the thing, now. I'm not sure. He played against Liverpool I think and has played with Jagielkahisroyalgingerness wrote:Yeah fitness was the reason he wasn't in the squad. Lescott isn't even in the first choice centre back pairing for his club, he's the second choice left back.
I'm not sure even Adam Johnson is first choice at City

Yep played against Liverpool in the he's a left footed centre half so let's whack him at left back game. See Agger, Daniel. That Kolarov got injured first game. Pretty sure Worf started against Sunderland too, but was taken off for being utterly wank, so bad I think they put slowest-man-in-the-world Gareth Barry there.CAPSLOCK wrote:He played against Liverpool I think and has played with Jagielkahisroyalgingerness wrote:Yeah fitness was the reason he wasn't in the squad. Lescott is a decent, nothing more, centre half, who has an eye for a goal, and cannot play left back.
