How about Steinnson is:

a) better than the other alternatives to him being injured and unavailable
b) better than his predecessors
c) as good a right back as we can expect to attract to Bolton

Just to start you

a) I'd have Ricketts as being better than Steinsson
b) Which? Hunt? That's negligible - John O'Kane perhaps
c) I don't know, what's Gudni up to at the moment?

When Steinsson plays, Ricketts is better.

When Ricketts plays, Steinsson is better.

Nicky Hunt is better than both.

Personally I think that Ricketts looks better at centre half.

Steinsson has been a weak link at times this season.

However, folk forget the liability Hunt had become in the latter stages of his Bolton career. And I don't think he's looked what you'll call solid so far in his Bristol career, though I'm basing that on what I heard about the first couple of games of the season!

The first half of the season before Steinnson came in I thought Hunt was playing the best football of his career; both from what I saw live and through reports on here.

I always thought the consensus was Steinnson was played because Megson bought him. Am I wrong?

In mine (and Owen Coyle's) opinion, yes.

Steinsson is not perfect by any means, but he's been a massive step up from what we had. It's re-inforced every time he's out of the team.

Owen Coyle wasn't watching Nicky Hunt 2 1/2 years ago. Megson played Steinnson in spite of Hunt's form to justify signing Steinnson. Hunt's dissatisfaction was probably carried from there.

I don't doubt Steinnson and Ricketts are better right backs than Hunt NOW, but where they then?

I think people thought so when Steinnson came in.

I think Hunt was a bit unlucky with injuries during that season. But I also hear that he wasn't necessarily easy to manage and cause some unrest behind the scenes.

Hardly

hunt wasn't a regular under Lee, despite getting him to sign a new deal

It all fits with the alleged incident on Eddies plane back from Macedonia and the open secret that Speed, Nolan and Hunt staged a bit of a coup

Not being an insider, do you mean that those three hastened the exit of LSL? If so, they should get the George Cross or something. If not, then I'm in the dark.

The fact that none of them are still here might be a clue.

To start with, yes. Plenty of hubris in the decision. However, just like he's taken a wrecking ball to many a player/dressing room/team/club, by the end of it Hunt was a shadow of the player he was and well behind Steinsson and Ricketts.
