Exactly. Furthermore the standard of acting on it's the worst that I've seen since Albion Market!Worthy4England wrote:It's not very true-to-life.Bruce Rioja wrote:I watched Crimewatch. It were shit.East Lower wrote:Midsomer Murders was good last night.
Midsomer has murders at a rate of about three a day, which is much more realistic.

Can't argue with much of that. her pronunciation of Persius ( Paaaarsius) persistently got on my nerves. Great effects, particularly the winged horse and the Hydra/Medusa whatever it was. Poor plot like they were making it up as they went along. It'll probably replace Jason and the Argonauts as the Christmas Day Movie (but never Zulu).East Lower wrote:The monsters were quite good, but I am no fan of that Gemma Arterton, she's a scene-chewer and no mistake. I found it boring as well, and much preferred the original version. The plot in this one was all over the place.Worthy4England wrote:Aye, some decentish SFX, but overall I was disappointed with it...East Lower wrote:It's up there with the worst films I've ever seen (I assume you're talking about the remake).TANGODANCER wrote:Wife bought Clash of The Titans. Is it worth a watch? I need to know before thebish tells me it isn't real.

Watched Atonement last night. The entire set up made me want to slap its face as it smirked its way through 25 mins of 1930s English Ruling Class Bright Young Things doing the kind of things they do in English Up Their Own Arse films in that sick-making accent mixed with mince and hauteur.
Don't know why I stuck with it, but did, and it developed a nice complexity in story, character and film making, and had the rarely less than brilliant Vanessa Redgrave in a moving cameo at the end.
Can, just about, recommend for a rainy evening...

Thought it was quite a decent film altogether. The ending was unexpected and good. I'd recommend a watch without the scathing criticism WTW.William the White wrote:Watched Atonement last night. I think it must be heartbreaking what Vanessa R is going through - the death of her daughter, sister and brother within weeks of each other must be devastating...thebish wrote:William the White wrote:Are you absolutely certain that the revolution that rids the world of this brilliant actress and keeps you is totally worth winning?CAPSLOCK wrote:Redgrave is against the wall early doors come the revolution

I heard it was on last week. Anyhow, thanks fert heads up, Chief, it looks like it's one that's worth owning anyway. I've been looking at the reviews (all excellent) which have led me to similar works which involve either one or more of Writer/Director/Cast members, so I've now added to my order This is England, Somer's Town and A Room for Romeo Brass.CAPSLOCK wrote:Its on Film4 next weekBruce Rioja wrote:Just ordered Dead Mans Shoes by dint of a recommend from Our Kid and a few clips spied on Youtube. Looks like a belting film. Now this, General Mannerheim, looks to be my sort of film. Anyone seen it?
Its great
I'll let you know how I get on.

One of my favourite films Bruce, great from start to finish, really funny as well in parts amongst the heavy stuff.
Ive also been told that the dvd commentary is well worth listening to as well, if youre into that kind of thing, but there's no commentary on the dvd version Ive got

I know what I definitely won't be watching....'An idiot abroad' by those Gervais and Merchant p***ks. Saw the 'preview' which involves some dimwit friend of the aforementioned being sent round the world and generally slagging off other countries and customs and making a nice person of himself whilst Gervais does that annoying laugh of his whilst showing off his new superwhite teeth!
