Bolton boss Owen Coyle claims referees' chief Mike Riley backed his objection to Gary Cahill's red card at Arsenal.
England defender Cahill was shown a straight red for his challenge on Marouane Chamakh in Bolton's 4-1 loss.
The club's appeal over the dismissal failed, meaning a three-game ban, but Coyle said: "I spoke to Mike Riley, who also felt it was a yellow card.
"With somebody of that calibre saying that, it reinforced my belief there was a chance it would be overturned."
Riley is the general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials (PGMO).

OC: ''c'mon Mike you must agree that was never a red card?''
MR: (giggling) ''You're right, it wasn't.''
OC: ''So, can we get it overturned, then?''
MR: (guffawing) ''of course you can't, you're at Bolton, now! Ahhh Ha Ha Ha Ha!''
Mike Riley is a c*nt.

Obviously not 'nice person', as he is one.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.
