Go to hell you smug bastards!!!! Another bunch of tools wanting us to part with money we ain't got, hosepipe bans, dry winters/summers just who the feck are they trying to kid? Sack the swines or withdraw any government funding imeadiatly, tell the water companies the gaffers will face prison if they drain the res for maintainance then bull shit about "dry winters" when we have record snows etc the type of water that soak in not runs off the land thus putting down a decent water table. Watch the flooding this winter!
Seems sensible enough to me Hoby?

Whats always best in these situations is to bury our heads in the sand and pretend that the overwhelming weight of scientific evidence is wrong because we don't really like what the science tells us.

So lets try and find silly little holes in the evidence, even though we don't really understand the first thing about it and then cling onto the one or two nutters who walk round telling us global warming isn't really happening and that its really just some multi-national plot to let governments raise extra taxes and that none of the greatest scientific minds across the world will possibly speak up and admit they've made it all up because you know, there is a shadowy organisation below them who will kill them should they speak out. After all we know that these science bods don't have minds of their own. Sheep, is all they are I tells you.

And anyone who suggests we plan for any sort of disaster or eventuality where the country is in trouble due to this non-existent change in weather patterns should just be locked up. That way we won't have to listen to them and we can all carry on regardless pretending nothing is happening and that our biggest problem is really those brown people who moved in next door.

Over 100 years of mass industrialisation and still people claim that global warming isn't man-made. I despair.

And even if by the slimmest of chances it turns out to be natural, we still need to tackle it, folks.

I don't give much of a crap about the pope being here - either for or against - I can understand and sypmathise with both sides of the rather tedious argument...

BUT...

it is repeated headline news on the radio today that:

50 "prominent celebrities" have written a letter to the guardian opposing the pope's visit.

1. I'd challenge anyone to recognise more than about 5 of the names

2 - and this is what irritates me... ALL of the 50 have significant links to the British Humanist Society and/or the National Secular Society.

now - they have their view - and that's all fine and dandy - but no report I have heard mentions this fact at all - it is made to sound as if it is a random collection of concerned celebrities - it isn't!

so what angers me?

simply this...

if 50 catholic priests wrote to the Guardian supporting the pope's visit - it would (rightly) NOT be deemed nationally newsworthy - so why is a letter from 50 largely unknown National Secularists deemed to be News?

if anyone is interested - here is the list of entirely unconnected concerned celebrities who signed this not at all a round-robin campaign letter:

I recognised about 30 of them. Do I win a prize?

I suspected that might be the prize on offer (though I was hoping for one of those Benedictaphones.) I suppose I could pop up the road and get His Holiness to sign it.

We're paying ten million quid for a bloke in a dress to tell fairy stories to a large crowd? Why not just get Eddie Izzard on Jackanory for a grand or two?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

no... I think that's the bit the catholics are paying for.

we're paying for the state bit - meeting the queen (who is not allowed to be catholic), talking at Westminster Hall to invited "members of British Society" on Friday evening, and meeting Davey C, Nicky C, and hobo's nanny on Saturday morning...

That first sentence really needs a fnar fnar after it bish.

Still, the queen could stay at home watching Eddie Izzard on telly reading fairy stories. Ten million saved. This deficit would last about ten minutes if they let me at it....

'Can your Queen come to greet President Obama during his visit?'

'sorry cock, she's at home watching Lost DVD boxset'
