normally I'd agree - but in this instance, no. he wasn't trying to be funny - and - maybe this is why I enjoyed it - he wasn't pimping up his past - it did look like he was being honest - he wasn't pretending to have hung with the coolest crowd...CAPSLOCK wrote:surely then you'd have to get past the unfunny tw*t thing
for instance... he admitted joining in with the paki-baiting when he was 13 - and went to find the shop-keeper that he and his mates had tormented - I think that's quite a hard thing to do...
he described a visit from the Debden Skins to a gig at Loughton hall - and his best mate getting into a fight - and him hiding behind a pillar, too scared to wade in...
possibly it also interested me because it was the time i was growing up - so the footage was VERY familiar - and it was in the neck of the woods that I live in now (but not then) - and so the places are familiar...

Watched an old Eastwood film, Pink Cadillac, tonight. Memorable for this:
"You mean a guy signed in here as John. A. Dickhead. and you didn't think it was an alias?"
"Well, no, with all the names he could have picked, why call yourself John.A. Dickhead if it ain't your name?"
Classic.

I watched Costa Gavras' movie 'Amen' tonight. Very, very powerful account of a Christian SS guard at Auschwitz who attempts - unsuccessfully - to persuade the Pope to speak up and denounce the murder of the Jews and the fate of the young priest who becomes his ally.
Based on a true story - as it usually is with Gavras - this is yet another near-triumph in political film making by this committed director and, while it doesn't achieve the cinematic assurance of 'Missing' or the passion of 'Z', it is still one to be absolutely recommended without reservation.

Do you? Easy when doing it for the purposes of TV, I'd say. Would Davies have tracked the guy down and offered his apology had he simply become a member of the work-a-day general public with a regret? I very much doubt it.thebish wrote:for instance... he admitted joining in with the paki-baiting when he was 13 - and went to find the shop-keeper that he and his mates had tormented - I think that's quite a hard thing to do...

Watched it last night, General. I told you that this was likely to be my kind of film. Superb. Strong story, superbly well acted. I look forward to watching the others now.General Mannerheim wrote:absolute corker. in my all time top 5, maybe even top 3!Bruce Rioja wrote:Just ordered Dead Mans Shoes by dint of a recommend from Our Kid and a few clips spied on Youtube. Just watched it now. I thouht it was pretty good to be honest, which is as expected. I could've done without the close-up on the wardrobe malfunction though!General Mannerheim wrote:wasnt dissappointed, wasnt exactly thrilled by it either.BWFC_Insane wrote:Inbetweeners.....dissapointing, or is that just me?
