..... and his second option? There are likely to be more scouts at a Premier League reserve game than a St. Mirren first team one.East Lower wrote:All true, but realistically he was never going to get a shout in the first team at Bolton - we aren't good enough at promoting players from the seconds.Gary the Enfield wrote:He could have carried on and fought for a place in the first team or got himself in the window by playing well in the reserves and attracting the attention of the various scouts who attend these games.East Lower wrote:Revelling in his misfortune eh lads? He could have carried on in our seconds for another year, and then been released - but instead he's tried to get a club now and forge a career for himself.
Hang your heads in shame.
Instead he chose to leave the club, rejecting a contract and slagging off the coaching methods into the bargain, and is now hoping for a second trial with St. Mirren.
I think this may be Schadenfreude, mein freund.
A twenty year old kid who left because he didn't want to sit stagnating in the reserves every week getting paid for nothing, but rather wanted to go and actually play football. The bastard.Tombwfc wrote:Regardless, he's a 20 year old kid. Wrong career choice or not, give the guy a break.
Good career choice? It would seem not, but I respect the idea.
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

I respect the idea. This, however smacks of someone who thought (or whose agent thought) he would walk into the first team of a half decent European club and has realised it's a little harder out there than he (they) imagined.Prufrock wrote:A twenty year old kid who left because he didn't want to sit stagnating in the reserves every week getting paid for nothing, but rather wanted to go and actually play football. From The St Mirren fans web site:
"Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Aaron Mooy has agreed to sign for Saints, but the deal now hinges on the two clubs agreeing compensation for the young Aussie.
Mooy, who has played for Australia's under-20s and been an unused sub for their full side, quit Bolton in the summer when he was offered a new contract. He wanted to go to the continent to try to develop his game, but when that fell through he came to Saints on trial. After suitably impressing, he has been offered a contract, and accepted.
That's where it gets complicated. FIFA rules suggest that when a player leaves the club that has developed him as a youth player and signs his first ever professional contract elsewhere, they are due some compensation. What that could be is anyone's guess. If it's only a few thousand pounds, then we should be OK. However, if Bolton want more - and as they wanted to keep him, that is very possible - we could be screwed.
Saints gaffer Danny Lennon claimed when he took over he had contacts at Bolton and it may be they tipped him off to Mooy. If that's the case, perhaps they aren't too bothered about getting any cash.
Let's hope things can be sorted out and we soon see Mooy in the black and white as he sounds like a real talent."
Good luck to the lad.

Simple enough, let them have him for nowt, but agree a 25% sell-on clause. Everyone wins if it comes off, no-one loses if it doesn't.Riviman wrote:From The St Mirren fans web site:

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

But wasn't Alsonso under contract to Madrid when that deal was struck? It seems that we have no such leverage here. The waiving of any fee with the stipulation of a sell-on clause seems like a smart way to handle the situation, but are deals like that commonplace?TKIZ! wrote:Or agree some kind of cheap buy back if he turns out awesome? It says we wanted to keep him so let's do a Marcos Alonso deal
Hi, St Mirren fan here.
Aaron Mooy signed for us today for a year (we have an option of a second) and we're pleased to finally get our man and the clubs have agreed a compensation fee. (This deal has turned into another saga for us as you can see here http://www.blackandwhitearmy.com/forums ... e__st__980, happened to us a few times recently
)
I have high hopes for this guy and I'm hoping for someone on here to shed some light on his ability. I watched him a few times now in bounce matches and he looks excellent, scored a couple of decent goals too. Hope he can be a good asset for us as we are in need of a good quality player (we're sitting bottom of the SPL).
We really need a goalscoring midfielder and we lost a good one in Andy Dorman during the summer, can Mooy fill his boots?
Cheers lads!

Don't know for sure but I heard it was about £70k plus Bolton get a 25% sell on.Gary the Enfield wrote:I hope he does well for you. What was the fee?Murray7 wrote:Hi, St Mirren fan here.
