Travel to West Brom
I'm thinking about going to the West Brom game this weekend, but I'm not really sure how to go about getting there. Does the club organise any busses to go down or are you generally expected to make your own way down?
I haven't been to Birmingham yet, so it would be a bit of an experience.
Cheers!

You can get a coach via the club if you pay. You need to go to the Reebok though to do so.Odelay wrote:I'm thinking about going to the West Brom game this weekend, but I'm not really sure how to go about getting there. If you drive then West Brom is a doddle with plenty of parking dotted round the ground. Never had a problem and been many times. Quite a friendly crowd too.

travelling on the club coaches is SHITE.
Jump on a train from Manc to Wolverhampton, then get a connection to Smethwick Galton Bridge. bosh.
or if you wanted to you could train it to Brum a bit earlier, have a scout round then catch a train to SGB or The Hawthorns from there - although I have no idea why the hell you would actually want to visit Birmingham?
one of my more favoured away grounds also, although the locals weren’t reet friendly after that playoff 2nd leg! what a game that was btw!

If you are there early, have a pint in The Old Contemptibles or Old Joint Stock then get a train or Metro from Snow Hill to The Hawthorns. Or get off in Jewellery Quarter and try the Red Lion or Lord Clifden.General Mannerheim wrote:travelling on the club coaches is SHITE.

I'm an Aussie that's been traveling for the last seven months, so another city under the belt is always good. Everyone keeps saying how bad Brum is. What's the reason? What makes Manchester and London so much better??General Mannerheim wrote:travelling on the club coaches is SHITE.

Buses themselves are fine, its the other people on them thats the issue. And you can't take any alcohol on them.Odelay wrote:Why are the busses from the Reebok so bad? How much do they cost?
Don't know the prices haven't been on one for about 10 years.
For an easy option they're ok.
Seeing as you're travelling around anyways then I'd imagine the train would be no problem depends how much the tickets are.
I'm driving down, no spare spaces though sadly.

no booze is the main problem. but its also very tedious and they tend to treat everyone like 12 year olds. the journey is like being on a school trip, complete with grumpy old bastards at the front and giddy kids at the back talking shit & flicking V's at other fans.BWFC_Insane wrote:Buses themselves are fine, its the other people on them thats the issue. I've lived down in Brum for 14 years and whilst its perfectly fine in terms of drinking, eating, general things-to-do, it 'aint pretty (give or take a few great buildings, like the Town Hall, Colmore Row and Cathedral) and it lacks the character and atmosphere of a lot of other UK cities. But there is much, much worse around - Middlesbrough, Coventry, Bradford...Odelay wrote:I'm an Aussie that's been traveling for the last seven months, so another city under the belt is always good. I'm an uncouth Aussie, I'll lie in the boot!BWFC_Insane wrote:Buses themselves are fine, its the other people on them thats the issue. And you can't take any alcohol on them.Odelay wrote:Why are the busses from the Reebok so bad? How much do they cost?

On a serious note, if anyone has a spare seat, I'll give you a tenner for a spot.
It's strange with English cities, because you never get an honest answer on what a different one is like. I quite liked Liverpool, but there's a snowball's chance in hell you'll get a Manc saying Liverpool is anything but shite. Londoners will never say a good word about the North and Southerners are all arrogant pricks. Gotta love the passion!
So what's Birmingham actually like?

More times than not the club coaches from the Reebok will be fine. And so will your fellow passengers. They won't allow you to see anything of Brum and, frankly, there isn't anything to see in West Bromwich apart from this very interesting place: http://www.thepublic.com/
Picture of the building - some may not think it 'a place worth seeing'...

It depends what you are looking for -I have lived about 25 miles from Brum for the last 20 years and I would say that the City centre itself is fine - especially the area round Broad Street - though i am far too old to be there at 3am on a Sunday when I am told it is just livening up.Odelay wrote:I'm an uncouth Aussie, I'll lie in the boot!BWFC_Insane wrote:Buses themselves are fine, its the other people on them thats the issue. There is nothing much at all in West Brom -and the area between Brum city and West Brom would give you just about the worst impressions you could get anywhere
What goes around may still come around
