Banned Substance List

Post by KeeeeeeeBaaaaaaab » Tue Sep 28, 2010 10:04 am

Is there any chance that we can ban mention of certain matches? We have painful memories of matches that, once mentioned again, bring out a sea gut-wrenching misery that makes everyone else on the board resent the person who mentioned it.

I suggest a weekend ban on anyone mentioning any of these matches, although a swift kicking would suffice if the rest do. I've put them in white so that anyone easily offended can swing past them.

The 2000 FA Cup semi final v Aston Villa

Black Sunday, v Man United

The 1991 Play Off Final v Tranmere

I hope people can add to this list, or that the mods can support me in trying to keep this a happy, over-reactive place, as opposed to a potential suicide pact due to being reminded of the most painful moments in history.

The whole 'Sammy Lee as manager' period.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

This page brings back some harrowing memories

It was the first time that football made me feel emotional pain. Somehow made worse by getting home to watch Granada's coverage on VHS only to find that Welsby and his mates were all on first name terms with the pikey, plastic, scouse 4uckwits and didn't know one of our players from another - except Comstive, of course. Yeah, Comstive. I could've put that in, you nice person.

Twas Aldershot that sealed it though. We were that shit that the team that finished third in the fourth division were still better than us that finished fourth bottom of the third!

Ah, one of my earliest Burnden memories. Its seared across my mind. From my grandad insisting that he'd always stood on the embankment (and therefore passing under/near the huge sign reading "away fans only". "thats a mistake" says he.)

To the "you'll be playing Scarborough" taunts. With us being in the away end, I can assure you thats what all 20 of their fans were singing.

And the Police escort back up Manny Road, with my dad trying to persuade the coppers on horseback that we were from Bolton. And then hilariously half of the other 20 people being escorted saying "actually, we're from Bolton too".

The Reebok's shite in comparison, isn't it?

I remember a game at Burnden against Brighton during the period when we were on our slide into oblivion. I cannot tell you the year. I've tried to blot it from my memory but it's still in there obviously.

Anyway, there must have been around 4,000 on the ground. I was stood in the Burnden Paddock with my brother. We both realised that we were the only people standing on five adjacent terrace steps in the whole of the Paddock - and those steps must have been 120 yards long! I remember asking my brother if he thought we would ever see our team come back again. He just shook his head. He couldn't speak. And then - we came back.

One of the reasons why I can live with Premier League mid table obscurity!

God's town! God's team!!
How can we fail?
