You ever seen the DW stadium?Bungle wrote:Why will it feck up the pitch?
Is there any proof that this happens?
Bury's pitch was a mudheap when Swinton used to play there - mind you a bit difficult to tell the difference
That place in Trafford cuts up when they've had rugby played there...
As a one off game, it'd probably be ok, but as a full time tenancy - there have to be some concerns.

I think its the overplaying that hurts the pitches. Like you say the odd game here and there ideally when its not the depths of winter won't be too bad but a full rugby season on the pitch will not do it any favours. However, the club need to explore all revenue streams available to it and we're not exactly able to be too picky are we?Worthy4England wrote:You ever seen the DW stadium?Bungle wrote:Why will it feck up the pitch?

No - think I said the same meself on an earlier post. But you look at the DW and it's atrocious - and that's with the rugby team playing largely through the summer...BWFC_Insane wrote:I think its the overplaying that hurts the pitches. I don't understand what difference they think it would make moving to the 'Bok anyway. Are they trying to attract floating voters from the North Manchester area in the hope they might go more regularly to their games at Edgley?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

The problems with the pitch at the DW were nothing to do with the rugby. When the pitch was bad the rugby had hardly played there. I can't be arsed searching and linking but if you don't believe me do a check.Worthy4England wrote:You ever seen the DW stadium?Bungle wrote:Why will it feck up the pitch?

Also, they seem to manage ok at the KC, Madjeski and countless other stadia.
Don't get me wrong, i'd rather gnaw my own arm off than watch kick and clap (RL man myself) but to say it fecks up the pitch is just wrong.

I can't be arsed looking it up either - so I guess we'll be none the wiser.Bungle wrote:The problems with the pitch at the DW were nothing to do with the rugby. There were other problems at the DW for sure. But playing on the pitch all year round probably hasn't helped.
Yes there are stadia where it works well. Didn't say it wouldn't at the Bok, there's been games there before - I said it was "wait and see" and I'd be concerned about the possible effects.
So I'll do just that - wait and see...

I think the thing is Rugby per se doesn't damage the pitch. Its the playing extra games of any sort on it and leaving it less recovery time.Worthy4England wrote:I can't be arsed looking it up either - so I guess we'll be none the wiser.Bungle wrote:The problems with the pitch at the DW were nothing to do with the rugby. I think that at they are looking to tap into a wider catchement area and include Lancashire.Lord Kangana wrote:I don't understand what difference they think it would make moving to the 'Bok anyway. East Lancashire clubs which I know when they goto a premiership game tend to go Leeds Carnegie.
Plus as well the reebok when compared to Edgeley park is on a fantstic transport network.
As a one off I think it will work and know of fans from Fylde and Orrell being interested in attending.
Anyway dont worry about the state of the pitch, we will have won the league before April comes round.

Sale have wrecked Edgely Park...but thats mainly cos they train on it
I don't think Saracens have wrecked Vicarage Rd
Our pitch is a little temperamental at the best of times due to a stadium design that doesn't lend itself to good growth, but I'd be OK with us becoming 'multisports' so long as the tail doesn't ever wag the dog
If Sebas was still at Sale, I'd be in
As it is, I'll consider it

I thought they did cities rather than stadia.. We could come under the Manchester selectionjaffka wrote:On another forum someone has suggested that the Reebok is being considered as a stadium for the 2015 rugby world cup.
Am just trying to clarify as I thought the grounds had already been decided.

I don't have a problem with RU being played at the Reebok so long as it is for competitive games only, no training. In fact I would probably go along to the odd game myself with one of my mates as he is a big Sale fan.
Has anyone considered that the supposed official capacity at the Reebok may not be what it has been declared to be? It's just that during an idle 10 minutes before a match a few seasons ago I did a quick tally and the number of seats (including the netted off ones and the directors/guest area, admittedly) came to around 31k. Not entirely scientific, but intriguing.

But we've all seen games of rugby damage football pitches haven't we?Bungle wrote: but to say it fecks up the pitch is just wrong.
Scrums can completely chew up muddy pitches, and even rooks and mauls too, given the bigger studs used in rugby boots (and their bigger wearers).
