My recollection is that Bergsson had dropped off the radar when we got him

And he came to us as a right back

A position I didn't rate him in
Me neither - but we managed to romp the second flight with him there!

Djorkaeff for me... The finest footballer ever to pull on the shirt

A joy to watch even in his advancing years. As a kid I was mad on Italian footy and he was always the one to watch in that league.. Better than Mancini, Del Piero, Lombardo, Weah to name a few. Then he eventually came to play for Bolton Wanderers.

I think it's between him, Hierro, and Nathaniel. Shilton maybe included on a technicality?

Hierro was fantastic the second half of the season. Pure class, but then so was Djorkaeff. Still super kev and various others mentioned about served us for many years.

Hierro? Not even close.

Played superbly well for about 12 games.

Probably paid massively for that aswell.

In terms of footballing achivement and ability at the height of their powers, I'd guess Hierro is the best we've had.

Shilton was the best keeper in the world and won 2 European Cups

Djorkaeff won the WC, European Champs and a couple of European club competitions

I'd put those two over Hierro, as good and as successful at club level as he was

Surely the whole point of Kangana's thread here asks who's done great things for us after signing, possibly against expectation, no?

There was of course David Jack, who led us to glory and scored the first ever goal in Wembley. After some eight seasons he was sold for more than double the record transfer fee at the time and only went so cheaply because our negotiators were apparently drunk

Aye, Monty, but he went for enough cash to pay for the building of the Burnden Stand and for that I'd never have been able to have thanked him enough.

Which alas could not be used in 1946 because the Ministry of Supply had requisitioned it, possibly contributing to the disaster through overcrowding elsewhere.

For me has to be the man who was so good they named him twice Augustine Jay Jay Okocha. Although all the ones mentioned are crackers, Jay Jay just seemed magical to me.

Oh how we all laughed when they said you couldn't play Le God and Jay Jay in the same team.
Pfffft.

Hierro has won 3 Champions League medals and 5 league titles? He was also the Spanish all time top scorer until Raul surpassed him and recently David Villa matched it.

Djorkaeff never won a League title, although did lift the Cup Winners Cup and Waffa Cup with PSG and Inter respectively. As you said though, his International achievements aren't bettered by many..

Wish I'd been there! Jack's dad played for us too and David was born in Bolton. Unfortunately, he (Bob) later managed Plymouth and signed David there. So instead of getting him for nothing we had to buy him. If he'd come for nothing and gone for a world record fee he'd be an untouchable wonderflip or whatever.

I was pretty depressed watching wanderers after our miserable failure against Watford in the playoff. Then i witnessed the debut of this guy and within seeing 3 silky touches, balance, control and ability with two feet I knew that if he could get over his serious injury we had a proper footballer.

Eidur cost nowt and we got a decent price from Chelsea plus a good sell on fee when he went to Barca.

He played against Watford, didnt he?
