Yeah, but we'd only played one top 4 team - Spurs and 2 teams that eventually got relegated - one of 'em fairly comfortably.TKIZ! wrote:Worthy4England wrote:Worthy4England wrote:It's got draw written all over it - as the first game of the season had.![]()

Just been checking as well it pains me to say this as I was never a fan of HWSNBN but we are on exactly the same amount of points as this time last season.
So were do we go from here, this is a serious question like, I don't want rid of Owen but what's his next step?
I've never felt as positive being a Wanderers fan as I have since Rioch days
40 points will be plentyWilliam the White wrote:The attitude of the team is more positive. We don't accept a 'good' point - we try to win. today as well, it seems.
But a couple of victories would go a long way towards easing anxiety in a League that looks like it may be very tight - and therefore more than 40 points to stay in it.
I'm confident we'll get there.
and that Owen is the right manager for the club.
We'll get that but won't get 50
Sto ut Serviam
Hadn't thought about that, games at home against Fulham, Birmingham and DMB and three draws, not bad. Need the win against the Potters nowWorthy4England wrote:Yeah, but we'd only played one top 4 team - Spurs and 2 teams that eventually got relegated - one of 'em fairly comfortably.TKIZ! wrote:Worthy4England wrote:Worthy4England wrote:It's got draw written all over it - as the first game of the season had.![]()

I think we could have easily lost today so the point is ok.
We need to learn how to kill games at 1-0. We're a little bit naive in that we keep going for the second goal even when West Brom stuck more players forward. So instead of keeping it tight, keeping the ball being patient and seeing if a chance comes along we almost carry on chasing the game and create end to end stuff again. Which when you're in the lead seems a bit unnecessary.
Learning to see things out is important.
As much as Petrov should have scored to kill the game (he was utter dogshite today, total passenger and lazy to boot) whats wrong with a good old fashioned 1-0 and a clean sheet. We can't shut teams out and until we do we'll end up drawing games we should win.
Having said that we weren't at our best today and still took a point. Who wouldn't have taken 3 points from our last 4 games? Only one at home and that was Utd.

Peter Walton lives round the corner from me. He attends Northamptonshire Referees' Association meetings nearly every month. I'm a member too.thebish wrote: Peter Walton will officiate Saturday's clash. The Northampton-born referee has so far dished out 11 yellow and two red cards in just three games so far this season.
11 Bolton players on the pitch at the end??? hmmmm...
He's a really sound guy as it happens.

hmmm - i wasn't there so can't comment on this particular instance - but I well remember the bigSam days where we would go one up and then camp in our half beckoning on wave after wave of attack... fair enough - we achieved high positions - but it was no good for my greying head and peptic ulcers!!BWFC_Insane wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:Oh, he must've have received my letter then.BWFC_Insane wrote: Just for Bruce R Knight was abysmal today.
he was terrible today. Which is a shame. He and Cahill just "don't work". I don't know why. Cahill had a really good game though.

the feeling at west ham when we were 2-1 up and we went up and scored a third was just awesome...
I know you're calling for solidity PLUS sensible breakaway when reasonable - but those cack-your-pants we're sitting on a 1-goal lead for the last 62mins are still sharp in the memory!

We've just been unlucky that we can catch a break defensively. I don't know what's been up with Moobs, his head don't seem in the game.

Agree Bish, but what I'm talking about is not about sitting so deep we're cacking ourselves, but seeing games out sensibly. Their goal today came after an attack a big punt downfield caught us out (Coyle says it were offside obviously I have no idea) then they got a cross in and a man over in the box to nod it in. Effectively we were punished chasing the game when leading. Campo stelios and Diouf were masters of killing games when we were leading, keeping the ball, slowing the game down, niggly fouls, winning niggly free kicks. There is a balance. As it is we feel a bit like we did under Todd that unless we have a 2 goal lead we're going to conceed.thebish wrote:

Put it into context that really the Brum result is the one we should have won and the last few results have been decent. But for me working on us when we are leading and how we see the game out is what OC needs to do!
Still not too much to complain about.

Excuses? Please clarify... With quotes if possibleCAPSLOCK wrote:I'll see it later, but whatever it is thats gone before, he's got back, his man hasn't got to the line, and there's no reason for our CBs or keeper not to be where that cross is landingLord Kangana wrote:It is before that.
Don't worry though, his infalibility is safe with you here.
Unfortunately, cos Petrov has failed to kill the game, WBA have still got a sniff and get plenty bodies in the box...and credit to them for that
re his infallibilty...seems odd that our workaday full back is fair game yet Petrov who is supposedly pushing world class has excuses aplenty made for him

Had a decent day overall, came away relieved to have a point tbh.
2nd half was a million times better than the first, but Petrov fluffed his lines when he missed that chance to make it 2-0 and game over. Summed his afternoon up for me, utter shite! Will never know how the hell he lasted 90 minutes!? Looked unfit, uncommitted, lost possesion, didnt track back, missed his chances and ultimately gave the ball away that led to their goal.
They peppered us after that and we were lucky to hold on. Then our subs came on and steadied our ship. Not sure where the Taylor criticism is coming from? I thought he did well and looked hungry. Mavis was terrific tho. I'd defo be inclined to give him a start soon.
Still some good performances; Jussi, Cahill, Holden & Elmo.
I've also no friggin clue how the hell they beat Arsenal!?
Fairly disappointing turnout today, and too many of tthose that did are total feck wits.

Don't know what people are upset about - picking up away points to top six sides is crucial if we're going to break into top half this year.

Or Jussi, who could - in my none-match-going, highlight-laden, bullshit-sodden eyes, should - be coming out to claim an inswinging cross six yards away from his goal when there's none of his team-mates doing anything other than running towards his goal. It was a brilliant cross from Odemwingie, who was offside when the ball was played, because it did just what it should have - put so much uncertainty amongst our players that the one person getting on the end of it was the one person who three players could have stopped.truewhite15 wrote:Having just seen the WBA goal, seems to me that the fault lies somewhere between Cahill and Taylor. Taylor for not keeping up and staying ahead of his man, and Cahill for not picking Morrison up as he charged into the box.
Let us not take it away from a good point against a team who have been on good form, and let it not take away from a team who are showing that there's no such thing as a brand of football. Long ball? We can do that. Tippy-tappy? Yeah, alright. Just let that "thuggish, all elbows, never a footballer, battering ram" to play the final ball after a spell of one touch for our goal.

In response to both - when we've carried on pushing forward under Coyle, we've wasted our chances to score one more. Under Megson when we tried to defend a lead, we couldn't do it. Under Allardyce, for spectators, as soon as we went one-nil up, all conversation and thought turned onto any subject matter other than the boring remainder of the game that we were watching.thebish wrote:hmmm - i wasn't there so can't comment on this particular instance - but I well remember the bigSam days where we would go one up and then camp in our half beckoning on wave after wave of attack... fair enough - we achieved high positions - but it was no good for my greying head and peptic ulcers!!BWFC_Insane wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:Oh, he must've have received my letter then.BWFC_Insane wrote: Just for Bruce R Knight was abysmal today.

Presumably in the Allardyce formula that achieved those top 8 finishes?Bruce Rioja wrote:
