Chile Miners rescue
have we had a thread on this yet? Apologies if so.
Still, pretty remarkable stuff. over two months trapped down there, 16 out so far.
Kind of puts things into perspective.

It'd be great if the miners came out of that capsule dressed as Mario.Little Green Man wrote:Dramatic, but I can't help thinking it would have been better if Davina had been there to greet them and show them their best bits before packing them off to hospital.

Or as Manic Miner, all pixellated and stuff. With a deadly toilet chasing them.Verbal wrote:It'd be great if the miners came out of that capsule dressed as Mario.Little Green Man wrote:Dramatic, but I can't help thinking it would have been better if Davina had been there to greet them and show them their best bits before packing them off to hospital.
This is the best feel-good story I have known for a long time. When the story broke, there never seemed any doubt in anyone's mind that they'd be rescued. I think that helped keep the mood of this story as optimistic as it has been.
Although isn't there one miner due to be welcomed by his wife AND his mistress? Oof!
Indeed. I bet he'll just want the ground to swallow him up....oh.KeeeeeeeBaaaaaaab wrote:Or as Manic Miner, all pixellated and stuff. It's certainly true I'm a fan of Chilean reds - esp pinot noir... Well spotted, Verbal...Verbal wrote:Probably thought you were talking about wine again.William the White wrote:your problem is?Zulus Thousand of em wrote:ForWilliam the White wrote:Not much of a present for her, miners not dying a slow death in the dark... wouldn't have happened when her best friend Pinochet was in charge...Verbal wrote: Nope... in fact, it's her birthday today!

I think it's amazing. I'd have gone absolutely mental down there. Even before they strap you into that tiny lift and drag you up that barely big enough hole in the ground. Fair dos to them.
On the other hand, as I was watching this on the tv this morning, with the counter at the bottom of the screen saying how many had been rescued, I couldn't help feeling like I was playing Lemmings...

indeed it is amazing - a great good-news story - and unblievable relief for the families...kavalier wrote:I think it's amazing. I'd have gone absolutely mental down there. Even before they strap you into that tiny lift and drag you up that barely big enough hole in the ground. Fair dos to them.

one thing that leaves a bit of a sour taste is the Chilean govt attaching all the patriotism to this rescue - when they have done next to nothing to ensure miners' safety at mines like this in the past...
blah-blah-blah - "health and safety gone mad" - people moan over here... but........
