Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen has announced his retirement from international football for the second time.

The Finn made the decision to call time on playing for his country last season, but answered an SOS call to take No.1 goalkeeper Otto Fredrikson's place as he was injured to face Hungary in their Euro 2012 qualifier earlier in October.

It was to be an unhappy return for Jaaskelainen as they lost 2-1 in Helsinki to a fourth-minute stoppage time winner, and the 35-year-old Trotters stalwart insisted he would not be winning any more caps.

"I spoke to the Finnish manager last summer when I retired and said if he had problems with the goalkeepers I would come and help for one or two games," Jaaskelainen told the Manchester Evening News..

"As it happened our number one injured his shoulder and hadn't played for the past three matches.

"That's why I went there. But I am still retired. It was just a one off game.

"When you are not travelling to the internationals, you feel much fresher.

"And I hope the club is going to benefit from that.

"It was great to go back and play. But it was disappointing because I couldn't help the team win an important game. It's up to someone else now to take the number one spot."
