You off to Northcote?

Luggy bugger!! :whack:
Kind off, Boris. We (work team) are at a Chamber of Commerce awards dinner being held at Ewood - Northcote are doing the catering. I thinks it's possibly the first time ever that I've spent the week looking forward to going there. :?
Lucky you! Fantastic place and one of the few reasons to go to Blackburn!

Absolutely. Northcote Manor was the setting for the finest meal that I've ever eaten. Hotel Hacienda, San Miguel - the second. Cafe Royal, Regent St. - the third. Su's chippy, Belmont Rd. - fourth, fifth, six, seventh....................

Although as I say, the do itself is at Ewood Park. For every action there's etc. etc.

A little smoked salmon with a splash of sauvignon blanc-viura fro starters.

Spicy chicken thighs with salad. A glass of chianti riserva.

Then listen to classic Serial on Radio 4 - ep 1 of Goodbye to Berlin - the inspiration for Cabaret. Dramatised by a friend. I'd better like it! :D

It's monday night, so i'll be subjected to 2 hours of soaps.

Although, with new laptop as discussed, i might slap on the headphones and take myself down a you tube musical nostalgia road. Washed down with a cheap bottle of Asda's finest red .

Was it a large do Bruce?

LK - 26 tables with a max of 10 people on each (I'm not really sure what constitutes a big do in catering terms). It wasn't just our table, it was everyone there. I've never been faced with a piece of beef (or indeed anything) so overcooked in my life. The tables were shaking with people trying to cut into their meat (I shit you not).

BWFC_I - I've had the Northcote's catering at Ewood on a matchday and I can assure you, fella, that it's absolutely magnificent. Last time there I had a lamb shank that fell off the bone and just dissolved in the mouth.

I've no idea what went wrong last week, but it went horribly, horribly wrong.

At 260 it was what we call "re-gen" food Bruce.

Unless you've paid a great deal, and to cut a long story short, it was always going to be shit. Sorry an all that.

I think it was £50 a skull, LK, so no, not a great deal but everyone expected better nonetheless. Pud was actually fantastic, to be fair (Chocolate and orange pud - lovely and gooey in the middle).
BTW - took my knives to our man and he's done a cracking job. I've now had to re-introduce my kitchen rule; no wine to be opened until all the chopping's done.

Went to Clitheroe yesterday to the brilliant wine warren that is the Byrne Bros shop. And ended up spending more than I should on red burgundy. Bought some Cotes du Roussillon from the bargain rack also (3 bottles, £11) - burgundy won't keep up with the curry/spicy food that's on my plate twice a week, but this stuff will.

I bought a Douro red also in the best selection of Portuguese wines I've seen (outside of Portugal), very strong on Douro and Dao, but examples of other regions also - red, white and vinho verde. Didn't buy any but it looks like an excellent selection of malts as well.

Since I'm allowed only one or two glasses of wine in a day I want to really enjoy. Slow and easy.

The shop is great, totally unpretentious, and the staff/owners are really helpful, knowledgeable and down to earth. Really, really good job we went on the train - or I might have ended up with a full boot and very large overdraft.

Are you not allowed to store your allowance up and then have a blow-out? :D

So do lots of people. Isn't "binge" drinking technically having more than 3 jars (breakfast) or something?

Yup. It would be far better for you in the long run to drink 3 pints a day every single day, than store it up to the weekend and have 21 in 2.

Detox is bullshit, by the way.

I did that this morning! I'm almost sober!

Binge drinking is 12 pints, 4 shots, a scrap and a kebab on the way home.. Or Tuesday morning, if you like

Nah.... hence the 'Tuesday morning" line! Dinner is usually spent with the plastic bottles under the sink
