Maybe he should have saved it, but let's have it right; he stopped the shot and it went on to hit the bar and come down in the net. He had a great game apart from that.
own goal then...

Sorry but no he didn't stop the shot and it didn't hit the bar, it went under his body and rolled into the net. The only shot he had to save in the whole game. But I'm not blaming him for the loss but he was a contributing factor as well as a bit of loose marking on the goal scorer and Cahill allowing Torres to backheel the ball through his legs.

But if the Ref had got the penalty decisions right we would have been out of sight by then.

Yes we were. We just shut off for a second in typical fashion and got punished for it. 70-30 possession in our favor suggests we were a little bit better though.
Eh? If that figure were true you'd be right but Sky had it 46% us 54% them :conf:

BBC has it 50:50 which was about right from what I saw.

Balls. The most difficult place for a 'keeper to deal with a shot is one that goes under his body and Jaaskelainen did all he could to have kept it out. It went on to hit the underside of the bar ffs. I'm no apologist for Jaaskelainen as I think that all too often he should be cutting out the danger in the first place rather than dealing with the shot but he couldn't possibly be faulted for Liverpool's goal.

I've always coached - if the ball is coming from behind you, go for the 'keeper's ankles. Going for the opposite corner means you're more than likely to screw it wide. Jussi did what he could. The blame lies with Cahill, who was too tight to Torres in order to let the ball go through his legs. Had he given himself arm's length he'd have dealt with it.

That was the worst second half I've seen us have this season. Maybe we - as a team - had started to believe Owen's hype about us digging in as a game goes on. Maybe looking for someone else to dig us out of it if we weren't at 100%? Speculating, I know, but it wasn't the proactive Bolton I've seen in second halves this season.

When he put Klasnic on - for me - he took the wrong striker off. Davo was disappointing, and I reckon it was something to do with the fact he went to ground more than normal. He'd have got a penalty in the second half had he tried for the ball, rather than doing the dying swan act.

All in all, the most disappointing defeat I've known for about two years. Liverpool never really looked like winning it, neither did we. The only positive I can takle from it is that Roy Hodgson is still in charge of Liverpool.

MoM for me was Steinsson - defensively sound today.

I want to draw a line under this game and move on. Simple as.

Home now. Very disappointing result and three undeserved points - again! - for the Scousers. We didn't deserve to win either.

But if we continue like that we'll be fine.

Bolton MotM? Cahill for me.

We were unlucky to lose. We marginally shaded the game overall IMO but Liverpool probably had the best 2 chances with Torres and then of course the goal.

But we were a bit unlucky with a couple ourselves in the first half.

Draw would have been the right result but hey thats football.

Tricky few games coming up given that result and we'll need to beat one of Spurs or Wolves if we're to stay away from the bottom 6!

Regarding the 70-30 figure, I was referring to a stretch of time before their goal. Sorry, I should have specified that. Either way I think the less-deserving team took all the points and once again penalties are not given in our favor for no particular reason. You can say that Davies tried to overly dramatize the push, but at that point Atkinson already owed us two.

Two very poor sides out there today IMO.

Gerrard was abysmal, Torres looked lost and they were there for the beating. Unfortunately we showed nowt in terms of the type of attacking nous that would have gotten us in behind a very poor and pedestrian back four.

Wrong decision again to take Elmander off for Klasnic - Davies was getting nowt from the ref, and wasn't winning the physical battle enough, whereas Elmander and Klasnic, two clever footballers, I reckon, would of been the key to a goal. As it was we kept lumping it up and didn't deserrve a goal.

They got lucy to get one, and you can't really argue as thats football.

We of course should of had 2, 3 penalties......bit thats how it is against Liverpool.

Pissed off we f*cked it up again......and now the record reads only won 2 rather than only lost 2, as we're on the back of a defeat.

Please Taylor played today and he did ok first half. CYL didn't come out second half I thought? He was good first half, then just didn't turn up after the break! Thought 3 ou of 4 of the defence had good games. The one who didn't being Cahill.

Not sure about Rodrgio, first I've seen of him but he hardly touched the ball in what, 20 minutes? We really looked devoid of ideas today and that was the most dissapointing thing...they were the worst liverpool outfit i've seen since the 2-0 at anfield in the cup all those years ago.

Pretty poor game, two awful teams. Coyle's worst game to date for me. L'pool were awful, simply awful. Never seen a Liverpool team like it. They passed it round and round without threatening, hit poor shots, gave it away, everything. And what do we do to counter? Toss it straight back to them.

Jussi, Knight, Taylor and Robbo all guilty of nothing balls from the back; Elmander's first touch deserted him and despite playing the only full back in the league he could outpace Taylor still managed to play with 4 defenders ahead of him the whole time. Nothing came off, all the cute little passes were telegraphed and cut out and our final balls were woeful.

After coming in at half time with our clean sheet intact, there should have been a marked improvement after the break. There was none. So why it took a further 30 mins to change things around when Lee wasn't having the chance to take a second touch, Davo was winning nowt and Taylor's contribution was to dish out hospital passes and knock it out of play.

Pretty disappointed - read fecked off

I feel very strange because I actually enjoyed the game, although I know it as pretty dire. It was probably more because of incident than performance.

One good thing that came out of today is the way in which Holden keeps on improving, he was easily MotM today and showed Gerrard up.

Aye Holden was good but he was the only one who could pass a ball, particularly second half
HE makes space for himself with his first touch but he carried that team today
Would like to see some changes!

Surprised at some of the OTT negativity on here. Though it is from the usual suspects.

It wasn't a good game and Liverpool were poor going forwards but we made them look poor with really good hassling and effort.
However their back four was solid and handled Elmo and Davies well and probably highlighted our lack of pace up front which was probably what we needed agaisnt their slower backline.

End of the day Liverpool were bound to win some soon and we were probably due a defeat. The fact we didn't deserve to lose against a team with one player who would cost more to buy than our entire team cost to build puts it into perspective.

Sometimes these things go for you sometimes they don't. When it mattered they took their chance we didn't. I still haven't seen anything in our team that gives me a massive cause for concern.

We're progressing well.

Do Elmander and Klasnic have a clause in their contract that states they cannot appear on the pitch at the same time?

Davies was clearly knackered, and hadn't beaten the Greek in the air for a good 20 minutes. It's a joke that a Premier League manager is so ridiculously unflexible in his substitutions.

Taylor was good in the first half, then disapointing in the second. That said, we've got two supposed proven quality left sided players and their form is so poor that if either manage to get above a 6/10 it's something to marvel at. I don't know what is going on there.

Oh and one "negative" point I'll make is the way we're playing means often our best "half chances" seem to fall to Muamba.

And he's clueless with them.

Muamba is actually very poor this season IMO and I feel he is being held together by Holden and in January it would be interesting if we can get an alternative to Muamba.

Too often moves break down with him. And he's also not winning the ball half as much as he should.
