Funny. Which is pretty much all I want from these comedians.East Lower wrote:hisroyalgingerness wrote:What do you mean "and"?
How was it?
Big nod to the gag about supermarket dudes asking you if you want help with your packing and twatting them through at 100mph if you say "no I'm fine" also about whether "Barry" or "Malcolm" is an acceptable name for a baby.

Good, I turned down some last-minute tickets cos I wasn't sure whether his routine is more suited to a 2 minute bit on a chat show or a stage tour.....hisroyalgingerness wrote:Funny. I first saw Jason Manford (along with many others, I suspect) on that Jack Dee at the Apollo thang and thought that he was absolutely superb. As such, I started listening to his breakfast show on XFM for a while, expecting it to be funny - it, or rather he, wasn't. As a result I've opted against going to see him live whilst waiting to learn the opinion regarding the quality of his stand-up from someone who's opinion's worthwhile. So cheers, Ginge. I'll check him out next time.hisroyalgingerness wrote:Funny. Which is pretty much all I want from these comedians.East Lower wrote:hisroyalgingerness wrote:What do you mean "and"?

May the bridges I burn light your way

The Bridgwater centre receives £10,500 from the council. Dearden fears she will now have to lose a member of staff...thebish wrote:and so it starts...

Bloody hell - back to the Dark Ages then. There's quite a few people lost their jobs in the private sector over the last year, due to the economic crisis Bish. Are you suggesting that the Arts are a special case?

they clearly are a special case - given that the council is cutting that budget by 100%Zulus Thousand of em wrote:The Bridgwater centre receives £10,500 from the council. Dearden fears she will now have to lose a member of staff...thebish wrote:and so it starts...

I'm fine with arts funding taking the hit - we're all in it together - but, 100%??

I'm guess the Bridgwater Centre will be able to muddle along without one member of staff Bish. And, before you respond, how much would you like to bet on them still being around in 2011, 2012 and beyond? I reckon that they'll survive.thebish wrote:they clearly are a special case - given that the council is cutting that budget by 100%Zulus Thousand of em wrote:The Bridgwater centre receives £10,500 from the council. I very much doubt the impact will be limited to one job at the Bridgewater Centre. The deepest impact will be on much smaller voluntary-sector projects that engage and involve local people in the arts.
When Churchill was asked to cut arts funding [for the war] he simply replied ‘then what are we fighting for’?

There will be no impact on the voluntary sector stuff. That's why we're having Big Society...

In a lot of arts funding one sum/award generates another. 'Match funding' is the term. Lose one and you're in danger of losing another and so on. I hope this centre survives and isn't damaged too much. but it will often seem an easy target to local authorities under serious pressure.Zulus Thousand of em wrote:I'm guess the Bridgwater Centre will be able to muddle along without one member of staff Bish. ahh - yeah! forgot about that! phew! as you were!

Pub, then tomorrow I'm off to Wolves for my first away game in ages. Next weekend I've got the Lancashire Sports Awards in Blackpool, then my driving theory, then Frank Turner at 53 Degrees in Preston, then hopefully soon after my real driving. Busy busy busy.
