Davies "Unstoppable"

Fearsome Bolton captain Kevin Davies was hailed as ‘unstoppable’ as he scored twice against Spurs in front of England manager Fabio Capello.
Davies, who also set up Bolton’s fourth goal in a 4-2 victory with a fantastic header, now looks certain to get another England chance when Capello picks his squad this Saturday for the friendly against France.
Davies, 33, booked on his England debut when he came on as a substitute against Montenegro last month, scored the opening goal yesterday, then converted a 76th-minute penalty to make it 3-0.

Another chance: Kevin Davies impressed Capello with his two-goal showing against Tottenham

Bolton manager Owen Coyle said: ‘Nobody put in a better performance than our captain and I was glad Fabio Capello was there to see it.
Kevin dominated the game from the first seconds — at times he was unplayable. He makes a contribution even when he doesn’t score but when the goals come, he goes on to another level.

Standing ovation: Bolton manager Owen Coyle took Davies off so he could receive the fans' praise
‘It is more important for Kevin to be given a chance again. I don’t like to tell other managers who to pick but anyone who watched him will have seen what he did.’
Coyle took off Davies after he set up Bolton’s fourth, saying: ‘I wanted him to get the standing ovation he was due. These were good players he was facing.’

Good to see Kev may get another international cap. We all know how Kev plays against frogs as well!

He is a limited player as we know but based on that performance he deserves a second England chance, and a starting one at that, ahead of Crouch in any case!

So I hope that Capello makes an honest selection and isn't influenced by the anti Davies press.
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

Every player is limited one way or another - they all have strengths and limitations. Players tend to get selected on their strengths and no one is better than Kev with the flick on (usually in heavy traffic) setting up others.

I'd say you don't know what you're talking about, and his performances over the past seven years have warranted this reward.

I doubt England call-ups are ever given as a reward for performances over a 7 yr period... in this case, FiO is far closer to reality - England places are given (so we are told!) for current form... (and if not precisely "current" in every case - I very much doubt that Capello will take into account KD's performances in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 or even 2009.)

You could take it literally, or you could look a bit deeper and see that he has been playing of a similar standard throughout his Bolton career.

I disagree - KD has always been fits and starts - many times unstoppable - many times woeful. he has not had a 7yr consistent england-standard performance record.

And much as I want the guy to have as much NT time as he can grab from a developmental point of view I think Capello would be within his rights to pass him up for Carroll - younger, faster, etc.

That said, right now they'd be unplayable if paired together...

Davies should have more than one England cap. He should have every single one that Emille Heskey spoofed but there you go. Sucessive England managers have never even looked in his direction.

I'm glad he got his cap and he should be in the squad and on the bench for the France game but you've got to pick Andy Carroll before you give SKD another game.

SKD may be the present but we've got to stop picking England friendly squads based on the here and now. We have to pick players with a view to the NEXT Euro/World cup comp.

Pick SKD before Crouch, Heskey and maybe even Rooney (this time) but dno't let's get caught up with something that ultimatley isn't going to do us any good when it comes to winning (or even playing well in future tournoi).
I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

Couldn't give a toss how England do in anything, so therefore all I'm arsed about is seeing one of my sporting heroes at the very top

Balls. That's all we've ever done. We've done crap so let's usher through the next wonder-generation. How about we concentrate very much on the here and now a bit more?

Not doing the seven year bit, but which manager would turn him down give a chance to buy? Seems opposition outside Bolton respect Davo more than some of our far-removed cousin supporters.

Kevin Davies is a f*cking legend by the way.

Even the Utd, City and Irish Scouse fan I watched the game with agreed. Best target man in The Prem for years, should have 20+ caps. I didn't start that conversation btw.

That probably should be a capital F aswell.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Well said that man.

He's played on with a boken bone in his foot, a broken hand (where he let the physio snap his finger back into place) and a fractured cheekbone.

Nat Lofthouse should take a paternity test

One more thing about Davies, for the 'old man' in the England squad, he looks about 15.
Troll and proud of it.

So true, I shall refer to him as "The baby-faced Brute" from now on :D .
