I once had an argument with someone about this film - it lasted days - it all came apart when I realised that I had confused "Mystic River" (which he was talking about) with "A River Runs through it" (which I was talking about).East Lower wrote:I think you're the first person I've ever heard say anything bad about that filmWilliam the White wrote:I watched Mystic River. Pretty poor movie in pretty much every way. But especially clunky script. Quite a bit of clunky acting too.
I told him it was a huge pile of mawkish toss and was mystified by his description - he, likewise about mine!
I still haven't seen Mystic River - but A River Runs Through It is cack!

Actually, come to think of it - I am even now mixing up my films - and history is repeating itself!General Mannerheim wrote:A River Runs Through Iti is better than Mystic River!
nah its not really, but it is good though! imo...
I do, of course, mean "The River Wild" - not "A River run through it"
River Wild is a mawkish pile of doodoos (the very irritating Meryl Streep defeats two armed robbers while floating down a river with rapids in it...)

The films were never, ever going to match the epic storytelling of the books.thebish wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:Big fight - on to the next place. Big fight - on to the next place. spot on!
As a cinematic experience? Loved 'em. But there were more holes in the film than Blackburn, Lancashire.

I enjoyed it too. Although I can't decide whether it's a vehicle for Coogan, the 'becoming slightly over-exposed' Brydon or a free advert for the Cumbrian fine dining lobby.Bruce Rioja wrote:Just watched last night's The Trip. I'm 'getting it' now. It's quite a brave thing of Coogan to do - plot and reflect his ailing star.
Some very funny moments, too.
