Aye, enjoying it too.Gary the Enfield wrote:I enjoyed it too. Although I can't decide whether it's a vehicle for Coogan, the 'becoming slightly over-exposed' Brydon or a free advert for the Cumbrian fine dining lobby.Bruce Rioja wrote:Just watched last night's The Trip. I'm 'getting it' now. It's quite a brave thing of Coogan to do - plot and reflect his ailing star.
Some very funny moments, too.
IMO, it's basically the two of them doing to themselves exactly what Gervais did to the guest star every week in the also brilliant Extras. Portraying a exaggerated version of how the public perceive them. Very clever.
Businesswoman of the year.

Yes I'm "getting it" now too. Liked the look of en'clume or whatever it was called as well.Bruce Rioja wrote:Just watched last night's The Trip. I'm 'getting it' now. It's quite a brave thing of Coogan to do - plot and reflect his ailing star.

Made me laugh a few times which I think is what they're aiming for.

not sure I liked the look of the "snot" drink - nor the £180 bill!

Not surprised at the bill.
And I bet that "snot" tasted really really nice.

Talking of Gervais, was it me or did the head waiter at L'Enclume look like a bizarre hybrid of him and Benitez? It was enough to put you off your snot drink.CrazyHorse wrote: IMO, it's basically the two of them doing to themselves exactly what Gervais did to the guest star every week in the also brilliant Extras. If you're still on Lovefilm, stick 'A Cock and Bull Story' on there - similar premise, same people.Bruce Rioja wrote:Just watched last night's The Trip. I'm 'getting it' now. It's quite a brave thing of Coogan to do - plot and reflect his ailing star.

Not even the best place in Cartmel. Couldn't beat the nags up there (not as in racing them). Great days out, they were.BWFC_Insane wrote:Yes I'm "getting it" now too. Lacking the required quota of unpleasant Brits?William the White wrote:Watched Gran Torino tonight. All the way through. Don't know why, really. Wanted to avoid the pre-Raphaelites on BBC4, i suppose. It wasn't very good really.
I liked it, but it was lacking in explosions and 12 foot prawns.... and the characters were way to developed for my liking
But then again, it is just entertainment for the unwashed

It's a similar concept I suppose, rather than a direct connection.General Mannerheim wrote:You're saying Gran Torino isn very good?CAPSLOCK wrote:Lacking the required quota of unpleasant Brits?William the White wrote:Watched Gran Torino tonight. Still, Gran Torino is superb, so maybe William the White is just trying to be provocative.

Not being provocative at all. I'm afraid to say I just didn't like Gran Torino very much. Like Mystic River I thought the premise was great but the script just didn't deliver. Didn't think the relationship between Eastwood's character and the boy-next-door was truly worked for, and never really believed it. I thought the gang of no-goods were just lifted out of a stock cupboard and the Eastwood family thinly drawn.
Not anywhere near superb IMHO...
Why did you guys like it so much?
