They're also protesting against illegal wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. I'd probably do the same in their shoes. If we'd protested with as much bvitriol when the Labour government took us to war in the first place then maybe we wouldn't be having this backlash.
Plus it was only about 20 odd people, bit fecking fat hairy fecking deal.
They are in this country, protesting about how this country conducts its international affairs. Strikes me that maybe they could go and try and claim benefits elsewhere.
Armistice Day, whilst rightly remembers the fallen in all wars, started to remember WW1 and subsequently WW2. Wars that were fought alongside Muslim men and women, for the freedom of Muslim men and women et al.

A bearded Muslim yelled
allegedly burning a poppy.
Outraged senior Tory MP

I like being spoon-fed material for my two minutes hate. So this ticks all the boxes.alleged poppy burners
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Bloody well done, LK. That people decide to abandon their rational faculties to swallow this malodorous swill used to surprise me.Lord Kangana wrote:About 40 fanaticsA bearded Muslim yelledallegedly burning a poppy.Outraged senior Tory MPIslamic radicalsI like being spoon-fed material for my two minutes hate. If you want something to hate pick something that hurts our country more than 20 Islamists not breaking any law in Blackburn - like those sending our young men to die in a country they had never heard of and will eventually leave having contributed nothing but wasted blood, theirs and those of the people whose lands they've invaded, for absolutely no effect...

Eh??? In WW1 and WW2 the British were ruling Muslim men and women without any freedom whatsoever. As were the French. The Germans wanted to, and started WW1 in part because of that - their desire for 'a place in the sun'...hisroyalgingerness wrote:Points on this random rant:East Lower wrote:People who get angry about that anger me. The aftermath was a persistent struggle to free themselves from the imperialism blessed upon them...

Tell the people of Halabja it had no effect. We should have been there, oh boy should we have been there, but not for the reasons we were. As for the Poppy burners... Why is it important? What the shithouse bastards in the press should be running is how the vast, hell, vast isn't a big enough word, but we'll go with vast majority of Muslims in this country, who just want to live their lives peacefully, condemned it as a stupid and horrific thing to do. Yet one they are and should be allowed to do. How democracy works. A minority behave like c*nts and try to make the rest of us follow. We, as a people, tell them to stick it. a few people allegedly burning a poppy (did they actually, do we know?)
this should be utterly meaningless and powerful - IF the number of people who complained about it, instead of complaining about it, actually took seriously the remembrance they profess to want to protect and acted powerfully for remembrance.
moaning about muslims wrecking "our precious day" when all you do on that day is wear a poppy - is, frankly, pathetic.
My guess is that some of it is actually subconscious repressed guilt at your own failure to meaningfully and constructively honour remembrance yourself - and thus take it out on an easy target.
Thosed whom we honour on remembrance day (this is my guess) did not suffer what they did with the glad and consoling thought that one day we would "defend" them by attacking muslims.

As for the poppy burning incident? I've just posted this on another site but it's relevant here too, I think.
Just for the sake of balance:
Undivided India (That's India, Pakistan and Bangladesh by and large) suffered over 87,000 military deaths in WW2 and over 74,000 in WW1. The vast majority would be Hindus and Muslims.
The vast majority of Muslims in the UK will be appalled by the actions of these knobheads too.
Not to say that I wouldn't bang the feck* up for 10 years for burning the poppies if I had my way, of course.

I gave up trying to give some perspective to this int' pub last night when people were trying to tell me the picture on the front of the Daily Star (not my paper - already in there) wasn't photoshopped...thebish wrote:FWIW...

William are you having a laugh here? How many of these freed from imperialism countries are actully "free" or ruled by tyrants or even worse sects like the Taliban who repress just as much or more than the west ever did? Islam is not bad it is the mad mulla's who distort it to fill their ideals. (by the way i am not suggesting all mulla's are mad)William the White wrote:Eh??? Well, now you've all had your little rants maybe I should clarify what it is that makes me mad about an article I posted yet made no comment on:
"Muslims against the Crusade"? How may people bother knowing what a Crusade was? Only, the last one ended in 1291, let's see: that's 719 years ago by my reckoning. Religious wars about the Holy Land and the home of Christianity. We get told we should apologise for these "Crusades" (Wars of the cross) when Christianity has nothing whatsoever to do with what's happening in Iran,Iraq etc. Should the Muslims apologise to Spain for invading their country and taking itover for 800 years? Should we expect apologies from the Vikings, Romans, Germans, French, Scots Welsh and Irish who have all invaded our borders over thousands of years? Oh aye, greed, the desire for power and even resorting to grand theft have all had a big hand in it all, but we call that history. Britain are minnows in a world shark pool; our soldiers are no more than attempted peace-keeping forces in crazy world politics and I doubt if just one soldier actually wants to be in there risking their lives for what? All/any wars are a needless waste of life, no argument, but the defenceless are always the target of invaders whatever century we're in. Democracy and free-speech are fine ideals when they apply to all...but they don't.
Add the fact that a traditional remeberance occasion for the soldiers who gave their lives in two World Wars (our own fathers, grandfathers, relations and friends ( because that's what Poppy Day is all about despite the add-on that have occurred since) should be the scene of obscene demonstrations in the name of Muslims against the Crusades. What an utter load of bollox. If any like demonstration had occurred in Iran or Iraq the perpetrators would never be seen or heard of again. That's what I'm really mad about and, if it's all the same to you all, I'll continue to be so.
Er, thank you.

Tell "us" Bish? , or just you jumping in with another of your self-righteous attempts to display your superiority? I observed the silence, chucked my money in the box and remembered my own father and said a prayer or two for his soul. See, I don't have a pulpit to give sermons from, or a church field to decorate with poppies as you do, due to your calling. Oh, and I've more than done my time attending rememberance services at the Bolton Cenotaph. My dad used to take us up Dunscar every Rememberance Sunday ( we walked there and back) for a quiet few moments at the memorial there. I attended the services long after that. Hope that answers your question. I won't ask what you did. I really don't care, nor do I wish a three page debate. I had my say, just like others. That's enough. No answer required.thebish wrote:you have every right to be angry - carry on.
tell us tho - on the positive side - the precious day of remembrance that we want to preserve and honour - what did you do - how did you positively and proudly honour the dead?

the point is quite simple.
here it is.
People often tell us that our traditions and ceremonies are under threat from muslims disrespecting them.
the truth is - they are under threat for the much simpler reason that most people in the UK simply don't bother observing them.
there were two outdoor community ceremonies in my town at 11am on 11th Nov. - one at the town memorial and a "field of remembrance" on the lawns that I organised. BOTH were very sparsely attended - there were MORE people in Waitrose and Aldi than at the two remembrance ceremonies. And yet DOZENS ofn people in upminster have moaned in my hearing about the muslims not honouring our traditions... truth is - we can't really be that arsed to honour our own traditions beyond dropping a coin in a box/wearing a poppy or typing a crappy fb status update. if that is the strength of it - then it will die without any outside help.
for whatever reason - you chose not to bother (and entirely within your rights) - and millions of others joined you in not bothering. If that is the strength of our precious traditions and ceremonies - then we will need no help at all from a handful of lunatic misguided muslims to destroy them.
that's what makes me angry - people who can't really be arsed about our "culture" and traditions moaning about the Muslims ruining them.

Image the scenario, if you will. I wasn't meant to be heading back home from London until tomorrow morning but managed to get away 24 hours early. As such, I'm heading up the M40 at 11:00 and think 'Fab, I can get to the the game on my way home here - a right result!'.
I phone the ticket office. "Hi, can I pay on the gate at Wolves, today?", "We don't know, we're waiting to hear something from them but they haven't rang us yet". "Errrr, riiiiight, OK. Tell you what, have you got their phone number and perhaps I'll give them a ring myself", "Sure, it's 0871 2222220".
"Yam oroit? Wullverimpton tickit office". "Ah, good morning - perhaps you can help me. Is it possible for away fans to pay on the gate today?" "We don't know. We're waiting for Bolton to let us know how many tickets remain unsold".
Oh feck off!

Started with dog spewing up everywhere, allergic to his meds, then better half almost killed herself cutting wire on hedge trimmers (which also broke later), then daughter dropped tea mug smashing it, then I fell out of wheely bin (jumping up and down squashing branches) and hurt my.......bum then found out some nice person has hit my car leaving loads of scratches down the door, only had it 2 months and it was perfect, not a mark....then shower pump broke and SKD not in England squad but useless lumps like Bothroyd and Cole are (saw Bothroyd at Cov and he was total shite)
Off to hide.
