I blame women police chiefs. I mean, look at James Bond. Since M retired he's had a woman who behaves like his mother/headmistress all the time and is more concerned with bollocking him than letting him do his job. I mean, we mustn't be upsetting all those poor misguided criminlas and lawbreakers and stopping those car-thieves and joy-riders from having fun now, must we. Gentle, polite handling is the answer

Of course thats the answer, silly me forgot :)

I'm one of those leftie liberal minded chaps that some here seem to hate but after seeing some tosser nicking a car, racing around like a loon, being a right tosspot I would happily let the old bill take them out of sight and give them a good slapping, esp when you know the courts (it it gets that far let them off).

Loved it when one shite was nicked and had already been done 40 odd times before but because the thing he was nicked for he had never done before he got let off!

I've been watching coppers as well. Great programme, sad indicment on society in general. How they manage to do the job without resorting to giving (some) people a slap is beyond me, but I suppose the threat of losing their pension is enough...........

I love these police programmes too. My favourite's Police Interceptors on Five, which shows the most twisted constabulary area of them all, Essex. It's like "Jeremy Kyle Show - Where Are They Now?", such is the ridiculous chavvyness and lack of any social or moral compass these people have. Most popular question from the pricks being stopped is "why aren't you out stopping real crime?", as they're being led away due to them driving like idiots, then having £50,000 of white powder found where the spare wheel should be. Or when they're found to be 3 1/2 times over the limit having been travelling at 120mph in a Honda Civic.

While they are great telly, the programmes could be counter productive, giving these pillocks a badge of honour if they appear on it, trying in vain to get the coppers in front of the IPCC if they so much as breathe on them. Newsflash - police using brute force is legal in the right circumstances. And scrotes being an absolute arse while committing crime falls within that.

These programmes bring out the Planet Hoboh in me sometimes, but it makes me respect the Police even more. And, seeing as I was brought up correctly, and seeing as I have a mate who's a copper in Croydon, the level waqs already high.

Oddly enough I like them too - I say 'oddly enough' because I spent thirty years (plus a bit more for the Queen) in the uniform and the vast majority of it on the Traffic department. I joined that department when the car of choice was the 3.0ltr Capri (which went like stink but were reluctant to slow down again) and was there whilst we used the 2.8 Capri, the Granada, the Lotus, the Sierra Cosworth, the Sierra 4x4 and the Volvo T5. I was there when Bolton vied with Cardiff for the title of 'car crime capitol' of the UK. Fantastic times and some horrible ones too. Its the horrible ones that will live with me the longest. And despite being there throughout, yes, I still enjoy some of these fly-on-the-wall documentaries. Not seen 'Coppers' yet but have set the recorder for next week.

Is Police Interceptors the one with the police in a Subaru and Mitsubishi Evo?

And morons still try to outrun them in Metros :)

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you and your mates for stopping me for a "vehicle check" & issuing me with a producer on a what seemed like a weekly basis from when I turned 16 'til I was about 20.

They gave you a ticket where you had 7 days to take all your documents (insurance certificate etc) to a police station to prove you were all nice and legal. I think I was issued somewhere in the region of 8000 of them.

I have a couple of mates who are bobbies in Farnworth and Great Lever, and some of the tales they tell make your hair stand on end. Not just the ones involving Wanderers players either ;)

I received two dubious penalty notices about 10 years ago in East London.

It was a new route for me as I was travelling to a different depot and they were issued within 6 weeks of each other. Talking to a (non-traffic) policeman friend of mine who explained that the boys in East London liked to play snooker with stoppages. As I was driving a blue Mark III Escort at the time I was worth 5 points towards their highest break on a shift. They swapped pink for black in points due to the rarity of pink cars. What larks!

I switched to silver coloured cars after that and have not been stopped since. 8)

From 9'00 to midnight - 3 hours of Leonard Cohen on BBC 4...

The singer, songwriter, musical poet supreme of 1967 onwards...

Was great, and passed with regular texts from friends also watching and feeling their sadness all over again at all the things lost, misplaced and half-forgotten...

Was excellent...

Sorry I missed this.

True story, I once got punted out of a cell as a youth (overnight stop) at 04:00 in the morning, because they finally got tired of me singing "First we take Manhattan" to 'em.

Victory for music of the common man, I say.
