Matty Taylor
Forgot to post yesterday about how good it is to see Taylor back to his best.
He'd have been our MOTM yesterday were it not for Elmanders effort. He was excellent. Has re-found his sharpness and seems hungry and covers so much ground. His inclusion in the team has allowed us to tighten one side of the pitch which I think gives a little more stability and lets Lee have a little more freedom.
Just about every ball he put into the box had purpose and menace.
Keeping Petrov happy might be one of Coyle's bigger challenges as currently he ain't getting back in the side. Though there should be ample opportunity with the crowded Christmas fixture list I guess!

I think 3 or 4 posters mentioned it in the match thread, it was certainly one of his best performances for some time. He looked like one of the big losers in the new footballing philsophy of Coyle back in Jan and cut a frustrated figure earlier this year, so fair play to him for turning it around. But I thought yesterday he worked really hard, he ran forward and got in good positions, he beat men, and like you say put some balls into the box.
He had one effort where he was through and chose to pass which hinted at a confidence which isn't quite at its sky high best - it was a poor pass, and the wrong decision to pass and there would've been a time Matty would have put his laces through that, but it'll come.
Petrov's unlucky in a way, but he has been inconsistent and cited on here as a weak link in a couple of games where we didn't pick up all 3 points. I think he's looked like he's handled it quite professionally, and must be able to see the man ahead of him is currently worth his place.
It's good competition, a good headache and we have good options from the bench.

yeah agree, Taylor deserves his place at the moment, been working hard and delivering quality
it was interesting after a 5-1 win that Petrov headed straight down the tunnel and didn't celebrate the win on the pitch with the team and crowd, this could have been for a number of reasons but may be a sign

I've slagged Taylor off for a while now, but he had a good game yesterday he did look sharper much more like when he 1st came and he was all over the pitch - lets hope its not a one off !!BWFC_Insane wrote:Forgot to post yesterday about how good it is to see Taylor back to his best.

i'm guilty of complaining about taylors passing and shooting and sometimes his apparent laid back attitude, however yesterday he seem to be more controlled playing deeper and having more time, he played a good part in one of the best displays i have seen from us in years.
footnote ! newcastle should be ashamed of themselves for the thuggery, i hope the press remind them, they are quick to have a go at us , and we do nothing that can compare to yesterdays 'assaults''.

You get the impression that Coyle is building an incredible team ethos. When a player comes off the subs are back slapping and suoporting. It looks like a great atmosphere to be involved with.Taylor seems to have taken this on.Immense credit to Coyle for giving him starts ahead of Petrov.Essentially it says no favourites, everyone has the opportunity if they want to take it.Great for the overall club atmosphere. Also I'd imagine it's easier to raise your game when those around you are doing so and clearly p;laying with belief and freedom.

Please let's stop this. Yes, they were guilty of two counts of violent conduct, but moaning about thuggery and assaults make us sound like the woprst kind of Arsenal fans. Even though the cases you refer to are smacks rather than tackles, it makes us sound like bad winners.Devon White wrote:footnote ! newcastle should be ashamed of themselves for the thuggery, i hope the press remind them, they are quick to have a go at us , and we do nothing that can compare to yesterdays 'assaults''.

Sorry KB but I strongly disagree. Yesterday Elmander was headbutted (Williamson), bodychecked (Nolan) and elbowed (Coloccini). Just because Arsenal fans inspire pathological hatred doesn't mean we haven't got the right to complain when our players are targeted.
I wouldn't be amazed if Williamson got a phone call from the FA tomorrow.
Out of interest, I wonder what Coyle said to Elmo after that first, yes, assault (off the ball, nothing to do with football). Looked to me like the old "Go and show him up, then" - and he was soon dribbling straight at a terrified Williamson...

Neither would I, but I won't be clogging up all avenues in despair if he doesn't. It's happened, we stuffed 'em, if he gets punished good. If not, then we still stuffed 'em.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:I wouldn't be amazed if Williamson got a phone call from the FA tomorrow.

I recognise KB's caution - but this is a very very very very long way from Arsenal! an off the ball headbutt and a blatant and deliberate elbow in the face is not the fare that Wenger and Co whinge about and irritate us all in doing so. If Wenger whinged about an off-the-ball head-butt and a blatant elbow to the face - then i would support him in that. That is not what irritates people about wenger and arsenal - it's not what irritates "me" anyway. What Wenger and Co. do is whinge and whine about the ordinary facet of the game called tackling - and make out that there is some kind of conspiracy to wound arsenal players, when, in fact it is just tackling and sometimes that goes wrong (just like when it goes wrong when his players do it.)
I'm not convinced elmo was "targetted" in that there was a pre-game instruction to do so - but.... it is perfectly within the safe margins and a long way from straying into whingy-Gooner-land to comment unfavourably on those two incidents (probably not the Nolan one - that was hardly as blatant - though it was a foul - and was added by the BBC surely to make it look like a "campaign")

Anyway, back to Matt Taylor.....
I thought that he had a great first half, but definitely faded in the second. The same could be said about the past few games as well.
I just don't think that he can last a full game any more, so it's great that we have him and Petrov who can do the business when the other is tired.

Might be one of the consequences of our high-tempo pressing game: we always make three changes among the front six. You do wonder who would replace Holden or Muamba if they were injured, suspended or just plain worn out.keveh wrote:Anyway, back to Matt Taylor.....

Do they have them to protect head and face now? Bloody hell, I'm further behind than I thought in modern gear.CAPSLOCK wrote:If my lot lost 5-1 and was subject to the piss taking inflicted by Elmander, then I'd be asking questions of my team
But it was naughty and cynical
Keep it up Johan and get some proper shinpads

I think Mark Davies is the obvious third. He also seems to have come on leaps and bounds in the last months. From his cameos, not only does he have the requisite skils, he seems to have developed a work ethic. A potent combination.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Might be one of the consequences of our high-tempo pressing game: we always make three changes among the front six. So who else? Well hows Savies' revovery coming along? The last I saw of him pre-season, I'm afraid to report he looked "portly". And my worry foir players the wrong side of 30 with long-term injuries is that they never seem to recover previous fitness after a long lay off (anyone remember the returning Andy Walker? Pork Pie alert!). And the one thing you need to be a Wanderers midfielder in 2010 is energy and fitness.
So that leaves Cohen (not convinced) Joey (perm-injured) and errr.... Well not sure. Perhaps thats where we'll need a signing in January, then?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.
