Oh, & the thought that he'd sign fort Newcastle ... after Williamson, Colocini & Nolan all went for him last week, obviously coz Nolan had spread the word that he was a soft touch ... is tres amusant.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

For two years for whatever variety of reasons he was a dissapointment.

Now he's looking a player worth double his original fee.

The shame in it all is the timing of his form but thats the way things happen sometimes. I'll be sad if we lose him but wouldn't blame Elmander if for his own reasons he feels he can do better. Good luck to him. There is probably not much more anyone could have done.

Still there is hope he stays.
Agree and disagree at the same time for reasons stated above. I agree that his performance shouldn't be compared to his fee, but the fans and even the management whether rightly or wrongly are naturally going to take into account how much we forked out for him. If we hadn't invested in him we may or likely would have invested in someone else. Therefore as a fan they have a right to be disappointed in the results of the first two seasons. I also would be disappointed if he left now concidering his present form, but can understand his desire to leave.

I have no idea how this is going to pan out, but hopefully if we can grab a couple more wins over the next 3 games he might be more inclined to stay. Right now Bolton are the talk of the town but that is only because of the past few weeks performances. This needs to continue. A full stadium tomorrow might also have some swing. A feel good feeling is returning to Bolton but only just. This looks like the first week it will really be reflected in the attendance.

Had we offered him this in the summer many of us would have been questioning the club's sanity.

Who knows what motivates him ? Maybe the uncertainty is what's helped the turnaround. Maybe another 3yr contract would help him lose it all again.

I want him to sign, & actually I believe he will. It'd be a shame to lose him, but the club will move on. If we lose one occasionally via a Bosman, one we'd prefer to keep, we'll be miffed, but we'll gain a few the same way.

I'm very impressed that we've quietly signed Lee, Cahill, Holden, Klasnic etc. on extended terms recently. We must be doing something right & it seems that there's a good team spirit.
Yes and I understand that but there was a decent chance of getting him on a new contract relatively cheaply in the summer.

I think the benefit in doing it then would have been to have protected his fee (but I was thinking 2-3M then).

To say we should have signed him in summer is 20:20 hindsight.

He had a poor first season and a half, with about 6 good games thrown in just to keep the argument alive. Then January this year arrived and you could see the change in attitude. But he still couldn't hit a barn door. Had someone offered £3m in the summer, I doubt there would have been an outcry at his leaving, just at the loss of so much money. Its credit to Coyle that theres been such a turnaround, but if its the coach who's key, then perhaps it can be achieved with others?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Not really as I suggested I think at the start of the season we should get him signed up to protect our fee.

I can certainly see why we didn't though.

As much as Coyle has worked wonders turning Elmander around, he's not a miracle worker. Elmander was a good player before he came here and will be a good player when he leaves. I think its dangerous to start thinking that because Coyle is a good motivator and man manager that we can throw any old shit at him and hope for the best!

I'm still certain he'll sign.
But if not we'd be mad to let him go in Jan. For what we'd get-a couple of mil at most-we'd be better off keeping him 'til the summer.

Desperately searching for a tweet amongst the pile of garbage stating that Elmander has signed. Besides, all the cool kids use Twitter now. Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, JLS, Stuart Holden. :hang:

Didn't Liverpool's new owner say something about them not signing older players?

Their lot kicked up a stink at Hodgson, a stink at Konchesky and a stink at Poulsen - imagine if they then signed Mandy as the answer to their troubles

You could certainly see him being an excellent foil for Torres but that thought just makes me feel a bit sick

Hodgson does like his scandinavian's so maybe Elmander would suit him.

Either way though, the offer of a one-year deal seems pretty shit to me. I wouldn't sign that in his position, and I support the club, so why would he?

The club's financial position is what it is, but I'm slightly disapointed that we've seemingly yet to offer him something competitive. I just don't see this great saving we're going to make by not getting him signed up and losing him. £3mil won't cover the transfer fee, let alone their 3yrs of wages + signing on and agents fee's.
