OC - Miracle man
Just thinking further about our squad, it amazes me the improvement in mostly what is the same squad, in 10 months:
Kinght - a dithering wreck under Megson, now looking every inch a composed, dominant CH. £4.5m now doesn't look a silly waste of money.
Ricketts - a lightweight right back under Megson, and still that under OC, but looks a quality CH under OC.
Cahill - not too much difference, but under OC looks excellent when striding out of defence.
Muamba - a very athletic headless chicken under Megson, now looking a decentish player, though I still have reservations.
Holden - a free transfer unknown looking one of the best midfielders in the Prem.
Elmander - from flop to one of the best strikers in the Prem
SKD - to me OC has added a new dimension to his game. He clearly has close control and vision which was never really apparent before when he was asked to almost exclusively fight for long balls.
Taylor - to be fair excellent in his first full season, but was on the decline last year under Megson, now back to his old form.
No one has declined and the team spirit is sooooo much better it is like having an extra player, not to mention the atmosphere amongst the fans. Pretty incredible really.

The ghost of Megson was laid to rest yesterday! actually it was dead and feckin' burried.
When was the last time we finished a game, a game we was behind in with six either out and out strikers or attack minded midfielders?
Loved Owens comments after MOTD "We went for it I was prepared to lose 3 or 4 nil in order to chase it"
UP YOURS MEGSON!!!!!!
all I want for Christmas is megson off the pay roll

Not sure it matters - we have to pay ex-Managers for up to 12 months, if they don't get a job in the mean-time.Hoboh wrote:It cannot be too long off I think, hope not he had a rolling 12 month contract
Think this is the first time we've had to do it - no big surprise...

Re: OC - Miracle man
Well, sort of ... it's clear that his contract said that he would exit with a 12m notice due while not otherwise employed. We elected to pay it him on the drip rather than a one-off & so as we binned him at the end of December he'll be due, I guess one more paymenet.Worthy4England wrote:Not sure it matters - we have to pay ex-Managers for up to 12 months, if they don't get a job in the mean-time.Hoboh wrote:It cannot be too long off I think, hope not he had a rolling 12 month contract

I love that he's pissed & moaned that we are preventing him getting other work. No we aren't ... it's just that we aren't obliged to pay him if he gets another job. He also whined that we should have paid him off in a once-off lump. No ... though if he'd been willing to negotiate that to mutual benefit I'm sure we would have done.
He also appears to think he'll get anothere high level job. Fck ... any club taking him on will simply enter the same fan v fan disputes we did as his rep goes before him. Plus get ready for disgruntled players and a dour style.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Think them's the rules that the LMA managed to get in every Contract...
Re: OC - Miracle man
I think the best he can hope for is either Championship team or League 1. I honestly can't see bigger clubs coming in for him. OC will be coveted by the bigger boys after this season, I only hope we get to see where his plans takes us.

It is hard to see a Championship or L1 club coming in for him either. His reputation, what there was of it, has been destroyed here. It is not only us that can see how much improvement OC has made with the same players.TKIZ! wrote:I think the best he can hope for is either Championship team or League 1. I am expecting PG to get OC to sign a new contract soon (wasn't he only on a 2.5 year contract when he came?). PG needs to get this sorted out as a higher priority than Elmander really.

Re: OC - Miracle man
I really don't care about him anymore.
A few more weeks and his association with this club will be well and truly finished. We'va already laid his ghost to rest on the pitch, and the mood has improved massively amongst the fans. People are even trickling back...
So lets get this thread back on track.
Has Coyle's first year been a runaway success? Absolutely. From bottom three to top five in 11 months is like 2007 in complete reverse. The football is an absolute joy. Its no surprise that it feels like the Rioch years again. We had that "we've got a chance every week" feeling under Allardyce. But now, whilst I know we're going to be beaten soundly a few times, I also know that we'll be going down fighting, not sticking 10 behind the ball and hoping for 0-0.
I hope this continues. i realise that means Owen will be out the door sooner rather than later, but I don't begrudge him that.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Errr based on the critism of my comments about Elmanders contract and his right to negotiate and hold out for something bigger and better why oh why should Coyle consider signing a new contract at present????? His star is very high and getting higher, why shouldn't he keep himself on a short contract so that he can walk away into a "bigger" club when they come knocking at the door?bristol_Wanderer3 wrote:I am expecting PG to get OC to sign a new contract soon (wasn't he only on a 2.5 year contract when he came?). Ferggy will be going soon and possible Wenger if Arsenal fail to win a trophy this year or don't get into the CL playoffs, which would probably lead onto a lot of shifting around of managers in about a year from now. I'm sure that Coyle would want to be in that round of changes, ever onwards and upwards like.
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

We give him a longer Contract on more than he's currently getting. In return, we get a release fee, larger than the one he's on.
He gets more money now. We get more money when someone buys him out.

I think Megson was sacked on the 29th December so it will be one calendar month from tomorrow.
Good riddance and good luck finding some other sucker to employ you. Poor sods.

Re: OC - Miracle man
I've actually done a lot of contract negotiations and in my opinion what you are suggesting, although its good for Bolton, is not necessarily in Coyles' best interest if we refuse to let other clubs talk to him. If I was him I would hold out with my present contract as Bolton aren't going to sack me any time soon and if they did I would walk into another job at present. I could then much easier jump ship later on.Worthy4England wrote:You really don't understand this Contract stuff do you?

A similar argument to what people are saying that Elmander is doing.

If I was him, I'd probably think I had a decent chance of going onto bigger and better sometime in the future, and that the Club that wanted my services next, wouldn't baulk at what generally are lower transfer fees than one would expect to pay for a player.FaninOz wrote:I've actually done a lot of contract negotiations and in my opinion what you are suggesting, although its good for Bolton, is not necessarily in Coyles' best interest if we refuse to let other clubs talk to him. I'd take an improved offer from Bolton, for some additional tie-in, assuming that the level of tie-in, wasn't going to inhibit me hugely in the future. If it was going to make it impossible for other Clubs, then sure, I'd stick with what I had.
As for "I've done lots of Contract Negotiations" - that's no indication of whether you were good at them. I've done lots of swimming, but I'm a bit shit at it.
