Re: January transfer window...
Isn't Weiss at Rangers? I have to say I wasn't impressed with him last season. Talented yes, but no end product and a bit of a liability defensively.TKIZ! wrote:A lot of the red tops are reporting that Wenger is going to bid for Cahill in the Jan sales. £10m
I'm sure OC might be able to find us some more unpolished gems in the window? Mind you I'd see what happens with Weiss in the summer, he'll never get near the Citeh side
We need to start buying promising youngsters, so Ramsey is a good shout. We need a good young and promising CH (can't think of anyone off the top of my head), and knowing OC he will be looking for a young attacking player too. Vela would be nice!

Re: January transfer window...
Cahill looks the classic Spurs/Arsenal centre half signing of recent years.Good feet, patchy defensively, possibly a bit of a lightweight and over 10 million. We'd miss his distribution from the back but in terms of actual defending I think Ricketts could be just as effective alongside Knight.
With the ball at his feet he's exceptional for a centre half but when he's actually having to defend he often looks a bit flappy.
I watched Weiss midweek and he still looks more interested in showing off than doing anything for his team.Wouldn't even make the bench this year

Aye he is, my apologies gentleman. I hadn't noticed. Ramsey would be a great shout, plus Wenger maybe more inclined after watching the goals over the last month.CarlosHernandez wrote:Weiss? Isn't he in Scotland? Ramsay sounds like it could be a goer, seeing as how it worked out with Jack.
Pfffft.

Ramsey went to Forest earlier in the week I think.Wenger would want him to get guaranteed game time.Wouldn't have been guaranteed here.

Re: January transfer window...
He's only on loan there til January.
I reckon at that point he might go back to Arsenal. But it would be great to get him for the remainder of the season. Its possible

Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: January transfer window...
Certainly more possible in January once he's back to full fitness but imagining he plays central he wouldn't have the presence to replace Muamba and I'm not sure on current form that he'd replace Holden or Mavis. He is a great prospect though.
Re: January transfer window...
it seems the list of alleged suitors is growing...
does the number of suitors help us - as in it provokes an auction and raises his price
OR - do we allow him to speak to whichever of the clubs he chooses - at the agreed release fee - and so it makes no odds how many teams want him
OR - do we allow him to speak to another club - and agree a deal subject to personal terms etc. - and then the others come looking and offering him more - and he benefits, but our fee remains the same?
how would we start a bidding war if we wanted to? hows does this stuff actually work?
here's a question..The £12m Player Wanted By Arsenal, Chelsea, Roma and Inter
Gary Cahill of course! The Bolton defender has had a superb season so far and attracted interest from some rather large clubs.
Chelsea are looking the strengthen at the back following the potentially long term injury to John Terry and Arsenal have struggled to keep out goals so far this season and will have Cahill in their sights.
Cahill’s reputation is growing abroad also, Rafa Benitez had been interested in the centre back during his time at Liverpool and may see the 25-year-old as a wise investment at the San Siro. It has also been muted that Roma have expressed an interest in the Bolton star.
Owen Coyle will have to work hard to convince the young defender that he could prosper further at Bolton and any large bid would be tough for the Lancashire club to turn down. Bolton fans may be resigned to losing him.

Hi Arsenal fan here. I would like to know more about Cahill, I honestly think the london media have been linking Cahill with Arsenal as they want more English players in the club, at least that was the case in the summer. Now Vermaleen has been injured for almost 3 months and they have no idea when he will come back, if he ever comes back and Wenger said if nothing change he may look for a new CB. That's why the Cahill stories gathered some pace lately.Ianmooreslovechild wrote:Cahill looks the classic Spurs/Arsenal centre half signing of recent years.Good feet, patchy defensively, possibly a bit of a lightweight and over 10 million. We'd miss his distribution from the back but in terms of actual defending I think Ricketts could be just as effective alongside Knight.

I know Cahill is very rated by the media, but how good is he really? The way media talks is he is the man that will come to Arsenal and fix their defensive problems. Is he really that good? Would he go straight in the Arsenal team? Is he a leader and someone who can organise a defence? What is his strengths and weakness and how much would your team miss him? Or is he another Lescott, a good player who gets more favourable media because he is english and is seen better than he really is?

He's a good player but IMO he's not what you need at Arsenal. He's great playing out from the back, he's quick and not easily beaten on the ground. But he's not what you'd call a defensive wall and is certainly not a "leader" at the back and not someone who will naturally organise your back four.Abs wrote:Hi Arsenal fan here. He'll look good playing for you, but he's not the next Tony Adams or owt, which is really what I think you guys need.

I think he will leave but I'm not sure he will in Jan. Depends when the bigger clubs decide to stump up the cash for him. I think he'd be a fit at Spurs but whether Redknapp would be allowed the cash for yet another centre half who knows, also wouldn't be surprised to see Chelski interested given their situation at the moment. I think he fits into Wengers mould of centre half buying too, but his release fee is 17M and chances are we will keep him unless someone touches that or damn near it. You tell us, is Wenger likely to spend that, given he bought two centre halves in the summer and still has Vermaelen to come back eventually. Arsene doesn't strike me as someone who blows a lot of cash for a short term fix.Abs wrote:Thanks for that mare. Do you think he will leave and where will he end up? Re: January transfer window...
I would normally agree with that sentiment but Arsenal fans are getting a bit desparate and the pressure is building. This years premiership is up for grabs right now with at least 5 teams having a shot, Aresenal included. Their team has no guts though as the whiny moany nature of Wenger has not just rubbed off on many of the fans but also the players. The team needs some spine and it seems to be totally lacking in any present Arsenal player so they have to find someone or possibly 2 or 3 of those players to bring into the squad. Time for fork up the cash baby.BWFC_Insane wrote:I think he will leave but I'm not sure he will in Jan. Depends when the bigger clubs decide to stump up the cash for him. Thats just media cliché, we have plenty of guts, its just the last bit of quality that has let us down. Its funny when ever we lose we hear the same usual bottle remark and lacking character, but whenever man u or chelsea dont win we never hear this stuff. Its because we dont have enough English players that this remark is used as guts and character seem to be English trait alone, yet our national team is joke.

Not sure if "guts" is the right word but as you've said yourself you lack a defensive leader. .Abs wrote:Thats just media cliché, we have plenty of guts, its just the last bit of quality that has let us down. Someone at the back who heads every ball and puts their body on the line week in week out, Tony Adams for example.

I can't argue with your last line Abs.. But I think Arsenal lack proffessionalism. When they're winnng everything is rosy. But as soon as things don't go your way, instead of digging in an using spirit and heart, you seem to let petulance get in the way. If Arsenal as a club, think they're hard done by in the media etc.. They should create a siege mentality. Succesful clubs do this. "No-one like us, we don't care" It seems Arsenal, genuinely do care and that's your downfall.

In which case they'd be better off going for a Jagielka or the like.
Cahill, Abs, is a nice player with a lot of skill, cool head and quick. Good feet and reads the game well & so gets to the ball quickly and cuts out a lot of problems before they arise. He's worthy of a top career and he may well, sometime, move on from here. He is NOT, however, as said above, a 'leader'. He's not an organiser or a shouter. Even when we need a reserve capatain he's never given the arm-band. I suspect he knows his strengths and knows that won't suit him & so it isn't offered or sought.
He's got 3 years of a new contract left & he has a £17m buy-out clause I understand. So, whether it's you guys, Chelsea, Juve, Roma or Barca who come for him £10m will not get him.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Arsenal should buy Samba from the dingles, he's exactly what they need. However, if they want to overpay for Cahill then that's fine by me. Throw in Jay Emmanuel-Thomas on loan for the rest of the season as a sweetner and the deal's a good 'un.
