My comment was related to understanding contract stuff not being good at it!Worthy4England wrote:FaninOz wrote:Worthy4England wrote:You really don't understand this Contract stuff do you?
As for "I've done lots of Contract Negotiations" - that's no indication of whether you were good at them. I've done lots of swimming, but I'm a bit shit at it.

Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

The bottom line is, that getting to a Contract is invariably down to the fact that both parties agree that on balance it's pretty good for both of them. Nothing particularly to do with "ego".

I'm still not at all sure on what basis you confidently and scathingly assert that Elmo's ego is too big for his head... or whatever phrase it was that you used..
of the Bolton squad - My guess is that Elmos would be amongst the last of them left leaning against the wall waiting to be picked if me and worthy were picking teams for ego-trumps...
if not signing the first draft of a new contract offer is evidence for egos being too big - then I think you run out of language for the real ego-heads of the game...

maybe it is - but my question remains unanswered on this, or indeed, any thread...

Oh I have upset a lot of people haven't I, read the other thread please for your answer. IT'S AN OPINION, get over it, or are you his mother or something!thebish wrote:FaninOz wrote:I thought that this thread was about Coyle?thebish wrote:I'm still not at all sure on what basis you confidently and scathingly assert that Elmo's ego is too big for his head... or whatever phrase it was that you used..

no - I am not his mother.
I thought the point of discussion forums was not simply to give your opinion - no problem with that - but once you've given it to be able to have a go at explaining why you hold that opinion.
a forum where people were not prepared to justify their opinions with further discussion would be tedious - surely?
saying - "it's just an opinion" is tangoesque - YES - it is an opinion - great - but why on earth do you hold such an opinion? - that's what makes a forum interesting.
otherwise the forum would look like this:
poster 1: I think KD is rubbish
poster 2: I think KD is great
poster 3: I think Elmander is a wanker
poster 4: I think Coyle is a woman
etc..
all opinions - and no problem with anyone holding them - but not in the least bit interesting unless the posters are willing/able to have a go at explaining why they think that.

Never miss an opportunity do you? Maybe some people just think they're allowed a casual opinion/comment without it turning into a full scale "Question Time" for your personal benefit. It's a forum for football fans, not University Challenge. Have a day off.thebish wrote: a forum where people were not prepared to justify their opinions with further discussion would be tedious - surely?

Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?
Re: OC - Miracle man
I seem to remember that thread, actually quite a few similar ones about peoples views of Davies and Elmander, but perhaps not the one about Coyle and a women.thebish wrote:otherwise the forum would look like this:

I guess that if you don't like what I have tried to explain in the other thread then give me a C- or even a Z- for not citing and referencing in full detail all relevant background information without plagiarizing that material and clearly demonstrating that it is all my own work. And then

Yes a great attitude and approach to the game shown by our manager, which produced a very exciting end to the game.Il Pirate wrote:Fantastic from OC yesterday; 0-2 down, takes off our midfielder and puts on a forward. We ended up chasing a game we were losing, with six forwards on the park. " I would have been prepared to lose 3 or 4 nil or try to get back into the game"; states the great one. Did we lose 3 or 4 nil? Did we lose? Nah, and could have stole it as well at the end. I'm sure Paul Weller must have had OC in mind when he wrote 'That's Entertainment'...................Feckin' Triffic (and hats off to IH and the Blackpool team for a great game)

Can't wait for the time he does it and someone shunts 6 past us. I bet there'll be loads on espousing the fact that it was really entertaining to see so many goals.FaninOz wrote:Yes a great attitude and approach to the game shown by our manager, which produced a very exciting end to the game.Il Pirate wrote:Fantastic from OC yesterday; 0-2 down, takes off our midfielder and puts on a forward. Re: OC - Miracle man
I think he would sign a new deal here, and I think it makes sense for him to. We can all see how well he has done, but if we dont take too many points from the next seven or so games, which after all include Chelsea, City, Liverpool and Sunderland away, we could easily be in the bottom half of the table, with a terrible goals against record, and OC would be no more a candidate for the next big managerial vacancy as Ian Holloway would. Sir Nut would be back here saying how things were far better under Megson, and one or two would agree with him! Suddenly having only a short contract would seem to be a slightly vulnerable position.FaninOz wrote:Errr based on the critism of my comments about Elmanders contract and his right to negotiate and hold out for something bigger and better why oh why should Coyle consider signing a new contract at present????? His star is very high and getting higher, why shouldn't he keep himself on a short contract so that he can walk away into a "bigger" club when they come knocking at the door?bristol_Wanderer3 wrote:I am expecting PG to get OC to sign a new contract soon (wasn't he only on a 2.5 year contract when he came?). PG needs to get this sorted out as a higher priority than Elmander really.
Ferggy will be going soon and possible Wenger if Arsenal fail to win a trophy this year or don't get into the CL playoffs, which would probably lead onto a lot of shifting around of managers in about a year from now. I'm sure that Coyle would want to be in that round of changes, ever onwards and upwards like.
Also I feel he is a few years away from a big job. I think, that as long as we back him financially, which it seems we are going to do (not sure how long ED can do this, but he seems to be committed to doing so at the moment), then there are only perhaps Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Tottenham and Liverpool that could take him from us. None of those jobs look likely to come up in the next two years, and when they do the likes of Mourinho (in the case of Man U) and other top European managers will be vying for them. It will be hard for OC to get them with no CL or international experience. Spending 4 or 5 more years here, getting us consistently in the top half, into Europe, taking us as far as he can, then that is the best for his career right now. Knowing him he will do something miraculous in the next two years or so, but nevertheless having a longish deal here wouldn't hurt him.
