A bit of a cheap rip off of the other article last week. I think we have got the idea - our financial situation is unsustainable. I am not sure any other football club has a sustainable financial policy either, certainly not Burnley who have been on the financial presipice for years before an unexpected promotion to the promised land. Arsenal are the only ones I can think of who appear to live within their means.

Apart from the £260m loan they took out with the Royal Bank of Scotland to build the Emirates. And the numerous bond schemes that offer things such as, to take the last example, letting people pay £5,000 to jump the season ticket queue the season before they moved grounds.bristol_Wanderer3 wrote:A bit of a cheap rip off of the other article last week. Yeah they have debts, but they actually have a financial policy that is designed to service those debts, whilst seeming to keep their costs in line with what they earn by buying low and selling high, whilst bringing through young players. They don't try and keep up with the Citys and Chelseas. If there is one club I would like us to be a smaller version of from a financial perspective, it would be them, but it is pratically impossible as we can't attract the quality kids that they can, and so we would struggle to stay up. Really the whole of football is up the financial creek without a paddle, and dependent on benefactors.KeeeeeeeBaaaaaaab wrote:Apart from the £260m loan they took out with the Royal Bank of Scotland to build the Emirates. But they do give sweeteners to their local Council so that small companies of the site of their proposed ground have to accept Compulsary Purchase Orders that were less than 50% of the market value of the properties at the time. Which, considering they did this to 80 companies, saved them the best part of £40 million. Half the debt to Eddie, in other words.
So they might live within their means, but trying to credit them for their approaches to anything - sportsmanship, media handling, fan attitude, now even the way they do business - leaves such a bitter taste in my mouth that it's impossible to see them as anything other than poison.

We have to admit that Bolton and the rest of the Premiership are in significant finacial trouble that will eventually result in disaster, the bubble will burst, its only a matter of time!
In our case Eddie can't last for ever and what will his heirs do when he does leave this world? Are they Bolton fans and will they continue with the madness of throwing money away or will they call in the loans, or will he prempt the problem and write the whole thing off as part of his final will and testiment?
Its a very worrying situation to be in for the vast majority of clubs and the only way to turn the tide is to significantly reduce costs as its very difficult to increase earnings by enough to cover the losses. Hence, all player salaries have to fall by a very significant amount until we reach a position that breakeven is possible, I can't see any other solution.

Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED
