It might be frustrating - but it is clearly not ridiculous. Players sign contracts - so do clubs. When that contract has run its course - the club has no claim on that player and the player has no claim on the club. We signed him for three years - that was the deal - no more, no less. At the end of the season the deal is up - what we signed up for.

what would be ridiculous would be for a club to shell out whatever you imagine Elmo is worth - £15million??? - when a few months later they could have him for free... (fee wise)

You don't think it's right - I get that - the question is, though - what would be right? Would it be right for us now to "own" Elmo in perpetuity until we decide to sack him or sell him?

We are an established Prem. club and we are now able to rob a few clubs of their better players. We'll reeturn from our theiving raids to find that while we are out someone nicked ours.

Bit of witchunt going on here, it seems with Tango. I totally understand where he's coming from. It's shite that he's potentially leaving us for a relative pittance after the season he's had so far.

I'm sure TD is just aggrieved that after 2 years of paying shitloads in wages and transfer fee, for next to nothing goalswise, we now risk losing him because he may think the grass is greener somewhere else.

It's up to him, the offer from us is there and I'm sure an improved one will be too. Let's see if he wants to give us something back.

Better that he goes for 5 million than leaving a contract unsigned and playing out next spring with his mind on his next club. 5 mil would be good value in terms of a fee for a player 6 months away from a free.Mind you there's also the question of what wage his agent tries to haggle for given the circumstances.
Hope he stays but if he doesn't get what we can and move on.

It is what it is and the club were very aware of it in the first place. I really cannot see why anyone would get upset about it now.
