Re: Nixon Latest on Elmander
I have to disagree with you here Chris. Elmo brings us pace, power and fantastic dribbling ability. Klasnic is a player similar to Berbatov in the fact that if he doesn't need to run, he won't! I would have Elmo in the team ahead of Klasnic every single week. We have no one like Elmo in the team who shows no fear when running with the ball. We need to do all we can to get Elmo to sign a new contract, because we do not have the money to replace him.hi there, i'm chris wrote:I didn't mean like for like in the sense that he's a similar sort of player.TANGODANCER wrote:Nobody's forgetting Klasnic Chris. He's a "fox in the box" player who doesn't have Elmander's strength or energy. Totally different player and not a like-for-like swap at all. He, like Petrov at the moment, is an impact sub, not a ninety minute grafter.hi there, i'm chris wrote:Whilst I would love Elmander to sign a new contract, people seem to be forgetting that if he does go we have a ready made, and more than capable replacement.
Ivan Klasnic, up until 2 months ago was considered a much better player. He's already scored the goals (some belters too) in the Premiership, so I have no fear about him stepping in if needed.
Impact sub? Last season he was more than effective when starting games. How many did he get in his first season (with injuries)? He's had more of an impact than Elmander had.
Obviously no one has forgotten him, what I'm saying is that people seem to be worried about losing Elmander. Whilst I would love to keep him, if he goes it doesn't mean our season will be in free fall. Klasnic could step into his role and I don't think we would be any worse off.
TD is right, Klasnic is definitely an impact sub and I think he knows it. He's not fit enough to compete for longer than 60 minutes

Ok, we don't have a striker like Elmo who runs with the ball and I can't see Mark Davies being a regular as Holden is clearly one of the reasons we are so far up the table.thebish wrote:MJH-12 wrote:We have no one like Elmo in the team who shows no fear when running with the ball. Wouldn't really describe Elmander as having pace to be honest. Power and dribbling ability yeah, but pace? Maybe you've seen something I haven't.MJH-12 wrote:I have to disagree with you here Chris. I don't think he has out and out pace like Gardner, though he's no slouch. What he has is godd close control which gives the ability to run with the ball at the same speed as without it. Not many players have that.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

He's decent, in the games I've been to this year he's been one of our better players on the day. If he wants to go he'll go, nothing anyone can do. They used to say we'd go down if we lost Anelka in January, we did and we survived. We probably can't better the deal he's on now so he may have to go, better to sell him in January and make some money back but if it's the summer and he continues to score thats ok too.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

I can remember a couple of occasions when he's broken clean through and hasn't had the pace to shrug of the attendant defender....so I'd not call him quick by any stretch.Lord Kangana wrote:I don't think he has out and out pace like Gardner, though he's no slouch. Let's be honest - if Liverpool are after him - then we've no chance.
So we get to pay 2 years decent wages for a bloke who only pulled his finger out when it was time to negotiate a new contract
If he stays - we're happy, as he's nothing like that joke of a forward we initially saw.
If he goes - I hope his career bombs and Robbo snaps his leg in half on his return, ending his career.
The c*nt.

I'm not so sure... Liverpool as an understudy for Torres? or Bolton as main man??
Re: Nixon Latest on Elmander
He's from Viking-land....and everyone up there is a Liverpool fan.
Money talks....LFC might be in massive debt, but they'll still spend millions more on wages than we ever could. Don't forget this will be the last big contract of his career too.
Torres will be gone either in January or in the summer, leaving Elmo with little competition when it happens.
Thing is, he's a confidence player, and those scousers aren't known for 'giving a player time', he could end up being as awful as he was here for 2 years.
Just to confirm - if he does leave - c*nt.

I can remember a few where he's run 50 yards leaving folk behind him

Re: Nixon Latest on Elmander
He seems a lot quicker this season than he was in the past. I don't know if that's because he's at full fitness finally, or something to do with the change in management. We're still pushing at the 90 minute mark these days where as everyone seems to be exhausted in the 70th minute under Megson.

I think he has confidence to push his body now

Which is interesting as you'd assume Megson would be spending more time on physical work and less on ball work.Perhaps the difference is now when we do get the ball we don't give it straight back to the opposition and have to start chasing again.Re Elmo, there must come a point when you're missing one on ones and getting slated for it were the motivation to put yourself back in that situation isn't so great. Now he's burying them he's bound to get quicker.H. Be interesting to know just how many players have left Bolton for greater things and actually succeeded in becoming greats after leaving.

Depends what you call greatsTANGODANCER wrote:Be interesting to know just how many players have left Bolton for greater things and actually succeeded in becoming greats after leaving.

Franny Lee
Peter Reid
Eidur Gudjonsen
What goes around may still come around
Re: Nixon Latest on Elmander
In my time I'd say the following 'money deals' have done OK
Thompson, Reid, Borrows, Stubbs, McAteer, Jensen, Eidur, Phillips
Flops
Curcic, Blake, Frandsen, Gunnlaugson
I'll be forgetting some

Anelka on the good side, Ricketts on the bad'un.

I've seen plenty of talent go unfulfilled (I bet we all have). Perhaps we're just seeing what encouragement+talent+enthusiasm can achieve.
