“Of course, as a footballer, you like to have a big contract, but I don’t want to comment on negotiations,” he said.

“I will give myself fully to Bolton while I am here and when my contract runs out in the summer, we’ll see what happens"

Doesn't sound like a 'hint' that he's staying to me!

Agreed. If he carries on scoring then fine, leave with my blessing - otherwise if he goes back to being wank then balls to him. Never that keen on players who don't roll their socks up, literally.

Doesn't make things much clearer.Likes playing for Coyle and likes the idea of being free to negotiate a contract with whoever in the summer when there will be no transfer fee for the club he signs for to pay out on.Despite the spin in the article it sounds to me more likely he'll be off in the summer.

Its all a game though isn't it.

Elmander "I want a longer and bigger contract offer - no deal"

Club "Well we'll sell you in January then"

Elmander "I'll run my contract down till the summer then and see what happens, though I really like it here *hint hint*"

Unless Elmo has something really big lined up or his agent is incredibly greedy or Coyle behind closed doors doesn't fancy him longer term on a big deal, I'm sure something will be worked out in time!

I can see why Elmander does not want a one year contract, especially when he is in demand now, and possible not so much in a year. Let's just see how the negotiations turn out. Really don't think he said anything terribly wrong, but the story heading stating that he hinted he was staying was rather misleading. He hinted that maybe he was willing to stay but start making some serious offers which are longer than one year.

We've had our fingers burned of late though, what with offering mega deals to players in form, only for that form to vanish faster than a plate of Ye Olde Pastie Shoppe pasties at a Boltonian Christmas Eve buffet. See Cahill and Taylor for recent examples.

I think that is why an offer hasn't just been thrown out on the table. Less than half a season of stellar performances doesn't just make up for 2 previous years. He can throw all the blame on Megson, but throughout his career if I recall correctly he usually starts like a house on fire, then his production tapers off. This time it seems to be assbackwards

sounds to me like he'll go on a Bosman....
Bolton Wanderers striker Johan Elmander has insisted money will not motivate his footballing decisions.

He has also vowed to finish the season with Wanderers before determining where his future lies.

The Sweden international's contract expires next summer and Bolton have held talks regarding an extension for the striker.

Elmander, who has scored eight goals in the Premier League this season, has been linked with a January transfer window move to Liverpool.

However, the 29-year-old has suggested he will not quit Wanderers midway through the season and has sung the praises of his boss Owen Coyle leading some to speculate that he will stay at the Reebok after the summer.

Elmander told Bolton News: "Of course, as a footballer, you like to have a big contract, but I don't want to comment on negotiations.

"I will give myself fully to Bolton while I am here and when my contract runs out in the summer, we'll see what happens.

Since we're not going to sell him in january I would rather we wait until the end of the season too. He hasn't done enough over the length of his contract to earn a pay rise imo.

If he scores shed loads until May, he might see the offers flooding in and we can decide whether we want to up our offer and match them.

On the other hand if his next 6 months is like his first 12 months then we can pretty much tell him to take it or leave it.
