Ah .... good point. We just signed him from St Petersburg. That will explain why a google-search for "Bolton sign Russian" and various options around that, were unsuccessful

Playing for Monaco now. I know French club football is shite, but ....

Puygrenier was French. And I don't think he was actually all that bad.

Makakula on the other hand was shite.

That looks like Danny Shittu to me. And he was Nigerian.

Also, Seb Puygrenier was white...

Ooh, Danny Shittu. Milk turns faster. Definitely a candidate.

Rifling through the book in stolen moments at work. Not a bad read. Megson does the foreword, presciently (if jokingly) warning the author it might cost him (Padfield) his job. Not yet seen a sackable offence, bar possibly not declaring working for two clubs at once (not us) earlier in his career. He doesn't like Knight, for the reasons many on here didn't or still don't - full skillset but liable to switch off. As a side note, I reckon Curtis Davies is more of the same, so that pair could be heaven or hell. More news as I get it.

Is the general tone then critical of Bolton for sacking Megson? Is that why Coyle/Gartside might have seen fit to let this chap go?

I'm only halfway through it mate and Megson is still, just about, in a job. I'd say the general tone is intended to be quizzical musings on life as a scout and the foibles of players/managers/chairmen/chief scouts.

Have just reached the chapter with the quote above about players not being able to follow smoke signals. It's in a shortish chapter, probably intended to be "quizzical" and "humorous", about three players who he doesn't dislike (and has never met) but has an "unquestionable bias" against: Knight, Elmander and Muamba.

Oh and out of interest Padfield DID recommend Shittu - when Megson was at WBA in the second tier. The scout was laughed out of court. Hmm.

So a scout who has followed Megson around so much so that Megson has written a forward in his book, thinks that Megsons' three most expensive buys at Bolton are/were all shit.

Well that makes a ton of sense then.

It's that kind of book

Like a lot, he also has a pop at Shittu too

Not to his face, of course...

I have a backlog of books at the moment but that's on the amazon wishlist for now.

Obviously.

If in such a scenario, I would take a pop at him when he had his back facing me. That way he would need to turn and run. The key sentence in that last sentence is...'turn'.

I think that just shows the depths Megson had crawled too! and to think some people on here still like him!!
