Re: Where are you going tonight?
I've not seen anyone there as a standing gig, but I can't imagine someone of my rather modest height enjoying it too much! Think they could've done MEN or Liverpool and filled it (did they fill o2 twice in London?). Should be a good do, if I can stay awake

It is a bad venue for gigs. Saw nine inch nails there last year and it was nowhere near as good as when they played the Apollo. The sound doesn't seem right.

Nor does the sound at the vacuous MEN. Can't stand either of them. Love the Apollo - it's absolutely perfect. As far as arenas go I'd say that they Liverpool Echo and the SECC are by far the better of a bad bunch.superjohnmcginlay wrote:It is a bad venue for gigs. If everything goes to plan, I move back to Bolton at the end of Jan, and Spice Valley is on the list of reasons why!William the White wrote:Spice Valley. mmmm...![]()

Stayed awake, Arcade Fire were incredible. Sound took 3 songs to get up to a decent rocky level and everything from then on was superb.

Had ours at the Comedy Store last night - really good.
Mick Ferry was excellent, so was the hippy Canadian, the David Mitchell-alike and the tall deadpan one from Mock the Week were equally good.

For me James are the best live band out there. Seen them all over the UK. I'd snap your mates hand off at that price. This might be your last chance. No 2011 tour planned.

Long while ago, I went to see local band, and ex mates of mates, The Chameleons at Middleton Civic. Supporting was James. Guess who's records I bought?

Re: Where are you going tonight?
Saw them earlier this year at the Manc vs Cancer gig where they played with a full orchestra and thought they were incredible. They covered Joy Division's Transmission to finish and it went nuts. Brilliant.
When I was at uni Laid came on once in this club, and I said "oh yeah James, I love James." This lad I was with said "yeah, everyone knows em just for Laid and Sit Down but they've done so much more better stuff".....
I confessed "I only know Laid and Sit Down"....
Have since swotted up

Re: Where are you going tonight?
have just spent a wee while at Heathrow arrivals waiting to collect some people from the Calgary flight...
anyway..
1. what a great place to fritter away an hour or so - watching a long stream of happy reunions - quite brought a tear to my eye - I might just go there every now and again just to raise my spirits!
2. playing the game - "which of these incoming passengers would I like to be waiting for..." - a fun, but ultimately frustrating game - as they always swan off with an ugly bloke over there despite me waving at them and smiling!
3. I could have sworn I saw Owen Coyle with a bit of cardboard that said "Veloso" on it....
