It's to be expected though - I think come February when Bolton are about 15th we'll all look back on yesterday as the day the little flash in the pan got found out. Bolton were the same bunch of cloggers yesterday that they've always been.
If I were you I'd be worried as to how your "new, footballing side" were unable to score past a team missing their three best centre backs.

Re: Steve Bruce
TOTALLY OFF TOPIC but hey Eire_Trotter, I'm a Bolton fan living in Dingle, Kerry and was wondering if you knew if there is an Irish Wanderers Supporters Group? I contacted Tony Kelly at the Reebok a while ago about it but he couldn't help me. Also I will be living in Dublin for a couple of months from January (in the Rathgar area) if you fancy watching a game anytime.Eire_Trotter wrote:Here hereTANGODANCER wrote:Why not just pop back here in February and see how it stands ( though I doubt very much we'll ever here from you again after this week) ? Cool. Do you usually contradict yourself?
Dont be an idiot, have you gone down to Bristol so your IQ will fit in with the straw chowers?? Youre just embarrassed cos you didnt turn out arent you , or are you one of that travelling BLG branch, you certainly hiss on like one ...have i insulted your sense of colour ?
It was not in the least contradictory, how can it be when it was concerning degree, and when what constitutes "too deeply" is subjective..

See yer at the Reebok lads...6 for us again this year

Well somebodies got to beat us eventually, it might aswell be you.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

A balmy afternoon in May hopefully with Europe a possibility for us both. You can expect half the town down there with or without tickets if that is the case, it will be mental.Lord Kangana wrote:Well somebodies got to beat us eventually, it might aswell be you.

Trust me, from bitter experience of a couple of Champions League run-ins, that means nowt. If they're srapping for relegation, they fight for their lives, if they've nothing to play for, they're relaxed. Its frustrating.

Madmarx,
You were being reasonable until you got on the "We're considerably better supported than yow" tack. I just don't understand this whole look at the size of our support thing. It's a quirk of circumstance that the club you follow has a traditionally large following so why big yourself up on it? We love the massive clubs with large followings who spend lots of money on their players because it makes what we achieve so much sweeter and gives us more glum faces to laugh at when we beat their expensive incredibly well supported teams.
We get immense pleasure watching them achieve no more than us inspite of their bravado and delusions. we enjoy our overachieving team whilst you suffer the continual disappointment of high investment and underachievement.
Your other points were pretty reasonable so enjoy the rest of the season and we'll look forward to having a right good laugh at your expense next time we see/hear from you.

I,m still being reasonable mate ...
i was just surprised at the very very poor turn out from you, even given all the impediments . . There is evident fervour for the club ( as evidenced here ) so why does that not translate into at least a passable, die hard, away support . It really makes me scratch my head. It seems out of ratio, yes we would expect a few less travelling , if we get near 40k at home and take 5k away that is an 1/8th of our support, you only brought a couple of hundred, tops, that is of note to me .
Wasnt meant to be a " we're massive you're not" thing. ...
Anyway...i,m gonna melt off back into the distance now...but I shall return ..to crow or eat humble pie whichever the occasion demands in May.

Out of curiosity since I don't live in England, why were so many games cancelled this weekend?

In the case of Premier League (and other clubs who might have under-soil heating) fixtures it's not the grounds but travelling and car-parking in towns hit by snow and ice. Police, Health and Safety officials etc all have a say in things. The rest, the grounds are too bad to play on.seanworth wrote:Out of curiosity since I don't live in England, why were so many games cancelled this weekend?

In Chelsea's case it was because they're on a shite run & have several injuries and they're hoping the game is re-arranged when their form's improved.seanworth wrote:Out of curiosity since I don't live in England, why were so many games cancelled this weekend?
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Fair enough, will be good to have you back around come the time.I live in Devon now so I can rarely get to any games, family commitments, lack of money and distance make it impossible.Haven't lived up north for 25 years so I can't answer your question about away support. When I did live up north we used to take a good core of away support but that was during a period when we were in the lower leagues and home attendances dropped to less than 5000. A small number but I'd suggest if anyone were real supporters it would be those folk who turned out regardless and to some extent kept the team alive when it could have gone under.madmarx wrote:Ianmooreslovechild wrote:Madmarx,

as for current support...expense,local competition, previously poor entertainment(under Megson),having a stadium which is no longer in the town... sure there's all kinds of reasons but I'm not the one to be asking.
Re: Steve Bruce
Not gonna start throwing abuse at the guy, he's a mercenary like every other feck* in the game.
Thought he should have been sent to the stands on saturday though, for consistently stepping out of his technical area including (at times) being on the pitch.

Re: Steve Bruce
Right you hate Bruce fair enough! I am proud of where my team is now every ones has its ups and downs you are no differnt, and i think we deserve to be up there after all the years of shite i have been following sunderland for over 50 years. As for the attendance every teams bar a select few have dropped over the years due to Sky tv and what not and this so called top four!
That was a poor game and our players did not play poor but over the years i have seen many where we should have won and did not,we took our chances you did not (bar one great save) These things happen in football, and for delusion in sunderland fans? Come on lads i have been through it all with the lads Fa cup finals winning and losing losing playoff games and winning them its part of football!
Its a strange game you beat the georides 5-1 some lads calling us geordies and smoggys on here (im from durham look it up its real) we lost 5-1 to them and we beat you 1-0 its a strange season, now i have no idea where both teams finish, i think we will still be 6th come boxing day due to snow calling off most games
.
Regarding to the ref and cattermole intodays game should your player have walked also in the first half! tackle from behind ive seen lads go for less also davies throwing his arms about.
We took our chances what we had and won 1-0 football is about goals not how you play it. You dont win on corners you dont win on chances do you!
Good look for the rest of the season, only manchester united have a better home record than us this season so dont be too down hearted both managers were tits on the day!
