Charlie Adam. Whats he bringing to the party that Muamba, Davies and Holden don't? If he was a Bosman, then game on. But we're talking a fee for a player who may be a step up from Cohen, but not much else. Money would be better spent elsewhere, or indeed remain in our pockets. If we're looking at midfield, I'd be looking at a loan of some sort (similar to the Wilshere business last year) or O'Hara from Spurs (loan or buy) or somesuch. That kind of deal is more where we're at I think.
I still think if, this is a huge if we could persuade O'Hara or Kranjcar to join I'd be happy

O'Hara would (imho) be the kinda of disruptive billy big bollocks we really don't need right now.

I really don't get why people rate Samba so highly. Unless we're playing Stoke every week, or against Super Kev, dunno what he brings that we don't already have.

Fatherhood may have a sobering impact on him, plus O'Hara's missus is scouse and may want to be closer to her family.

What qualities would O'Hara bring that we're missing though? And why take a player on loan when we've got our own talented midfielder we could be giving game time?

What happens if Holden or Mavies gets injured? Just a thought Tom, not having a go or owt. We've got a tiny squad so any additions that can make the bench are welcome in my opinion.

O'Hara is a similar player to Holden in that he's full of running and attack minded.

Mark Davies.

If they get injured before the end of January, fine. O'Hara isn't going to come here to be our fourth choice central midfielder though.

Chances are it won't happen but what happens if two of those three get injured? It's happened to other teams

1) Adam is a midfield controller, a player we don't have. He is all about keeping possession. Most reporters picked him out after our game against Blackpool as being the hub of everything they did. He was the best player on the pitch for 60 minutes. Short and long range passing. He'll be too expensive and too big a risk and like people rightly say, difficult to fit into a 4 man midfield as we play now. But still he's entirely different to what we have now and I think is being underrated here.

2) Several clubs including ourselves, were in for O'Hara last season. He made it very clear he wouldn't consider a move north and was very reluctant to go anywhere outside of London. Unless something has changed then I think thats a no-go. Can't really see why we'd want a poor mans Holden anyways to be perfectly honest!

Fair do's on the O'Hara comment BWFCi, it's all about the rumours on this thread, at least until the West Brom game anyway :D

I really don't think we are the kind of club that is going to be able to afford that much cover in all positions...

i think the one definite position we need to back up would be right winger with CYL going to the asian cup who have we got that is good enough to play there, because I don't think petrov or taylor are too good on the right, and im not sure if rodrigo plays on the right

I thought the idea was that between Petrov, Taylor and Rodrigo we'd have enough players for both wings. It could be that with injuries/suspensions we would have to use an Elmander or CM player on one wing. This is just my thoughts after seeing how OC uses players, he may be about to bring in another winger on loan for January.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

In the last few games we've seem Lee, Elmander, Rodrigo, and Petrov all play on the right. Almost as if Coyle was testing his options prior to Lee's departure . . .

I agree in principle TK, and it was the reason I threw O'Hara into the mix. But we have to go back to the issue of affordability. Megson tried having cover everywhere, and ended up with a lot of dross. Perhaps its best to have a smaller, quality based squad and take our chances?

I'm still of the opinion that a Wilshere-like loan for the second half of the season is our best bet to cover all the bases in midfield and keep the costs down.

I'd take O'Hara, and he could potentially be our first choice centre mid if he reaches his Pompey performance levels. What does he add? Well, he controls games. He has a bigger range of passing than our current two midfielders, is tougher than Holden and is an equal tackler.

The point about him not wanting to come North though is the most valid, as such we'll have to look elsewhere.

Chris Samba coming in for a departing Cahill might not be bad business.

Player of the Year 4 times and probably holds the record for scoring for almost every premier league club inspite of only playing for a couple.Maybe he's past it but the laughing stock reaction implies you only remember the OGs you saw on MotD.
Like I said solid gutsy player, fans favourite, talent for memorable feck ups.

ITK Swansea fan reckons Darren Pratley will join either now or when his contract runs out in the summer, apparently.

Mate - I've seen the Queen Mary turn faster. Just imagine him and Knightmare at the back. In fact - don't. It'll keep you awake.
