What isn't clear is what the "too good to refuse" part means. Coyle has talked about 30M but I think if you half that you're near to his release clause and the sort of offer that would in actual fact be "too good to refuse".
If a big club is desperate in January to pay over the odds then he will go and probably that will be the best result for everyone, we get top dollar albeit mid-season, but at a time when (touch wood) we're not in immediate danger of going down and we'd have a bit of money to spend in January.
Should it all drag on into the summer then Cahill's value goes down.
Personally I think we could have a better back four with a better partnership at centre back. Cahill and Knight, isn't and never will be "it" for me. But we'll only tell that when we see a replacement for Cahill. I'd really like a no nonsense, organiser at the back, certainly the talk of Curtis Davies does not fill me with delight. Good footballer, like Cahill, but I'd just love someone who made it their mission every game to stop the ball going in our net, like Robbo for example, but at centre back of course!

My source, who has a role at the club, (but can't mention) has informed me about several transfers over the last 2-3 seasons. Such as informing me about the M.Petrov signing before he arrived, M. Davies when he signed from Wolves, and the arrival of O. Coyle - days before the media pounced on the stories. Therefore, this could be worrying news.
Out of all the news the source has told me over the last 2-3 seasons, this has to be the most worrying - as I could see the club selling him in January - which would not be beneficial giving our success so far this season, as the quad would be disrupted. Plus I could see Gary wanting to move to United and challenge for the Premier league title/Champions League. If this deal goes through I would want a superb centre-back to come in to replace, such as C. Samba from Blackburn.
Hope my source is wrong, but don't be surprised if this hits the news next week.

If we got 15-18 mill for Cahill that would be brilliant from the clubs point of veiw, I honestly don't think he is that good a defender right now, not bad, but just not as good as some would have you believe.
Potential unrealised ain't worth a carrott for rudolph and we will never see Cahill develope that much here best for both parties a parting of ways.

Re: Gary Cahill, Bad News...
Why worry? No point in wasting emotional energy, if it doesn't happen you have wasted a lot of emotional energy, if it does then we can't do anything about it so again no point in wasting emotional energy then either.
He will go as soon as somebody offers a fee which Bolton will accept, whether it be 5, 15, 20 or 30mil. We don't know what that figure is so why worry about it?
As some have said Bolton will go on and survive irrespective of what happens, and he hasn't been able to help us to keep clean sheets so perhaps its a good thing if he goes. His replacement may be better, who knows. My personal view is that he isn't as good as many people make out and is more likely to be another ex-bolton failure like Ben Haim than a great success, whether it be United, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea that he goes to. Non of those teams will be as forgiving as Bolton have been for his defensive errors, but I wish him all the best if he does leave us.

Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED
Re: Gary Cahill, Bad News...
It's already been said but if Manchester United want Cahill, then Cahill is going to Manchester United.
The same goes for Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and probably even Spurs.
If we got £15 million or more for him in January, that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but I'd rather keep him until the summer. Hell, I'd rather keep him forever, but we all know at some point he'll be leaving!

If after the type of performance like yesterday someone is willing to pay an eight-figure sum for him, start the car

If they offer more than 10million, then accept it, get Samba on the cheap and move on...
Transfers happen and as much as I don't want Cahill to go, it's United. Get a grip.

I take it by adding the 's that you're factoring in his wages? I agree that with young players, we should look at recouping the wages and making a profit on the salea1 wrote:but he kept a clean sheet against wba. and bolton fans want clean sheets more than three points.hisroyalgingerness wrote:If after the type of performance like yesterday someone is willing to pay an eight-figure sum for him, start the car

Re: Gary Cahill, Bad News...
no, factoring his [already paid] wages makes it more .
my understanding is when all this "they can get him back for 8 million" scaremongering occured (this was with regard a clause regarding our relegation, we stopped up ) and laters the manager (think it were megson) confirmed it no longer existed when cahill signed his improved contract. i assume money changed hands to get rid of the cheapo buyback clause. this couldve cost them 3million [this is a guess based on the 8million rumour and the five we already give; 8-5 = 3].
also there was a 20-25% sell on . this might be related to this relgation clause. it might be seperate.
if theyre not and you take it to its extreme , we'll need at least £10m just to make the five we initally paid back.
our owen's more right with the seventeen talk.

So. In short. Are you saying BWFC paid AVFC a further £3,000,000 in order to have the 25% resale clause de-activated?
I'm not questioning the validity of the claim.. I'm just not always sure what the f*ck you're on about!

my theory is more based on villa covering their backs incase he were a good un. which i'm guessing £5million after about 20 games + more money later meant they were erring toward yes. 5-8million seems about right.
i'm not sure what 'profit' bolton should be looking at, but considering the team he were at before he were good made at least 5 , this "sell him for 10 million" talk seems to be ripping off the club that he became an international at.

I think most sane Bolton fans acknowledge that the defensive performances against West Brom was woeful, and those types of performances will see us concede far, far more often than they will keep clean sheets. There aren't many attacks in the Premier League capable of being as wasteful as West Brom were that day.

Ray Parlour just spouting on SSN saying that Arsenal need a good English centre half and Gary Cahill would fit the bill. Apparently Arsene and the Arsenal backroom staff would develop him into a top quality England centre half.
Ray Parlour is still an arsehole even though he's ditched the perm.

Mind you I wouldn't mind Arsenal and United getting into a price war over our Gary.

I know since Arsene has done such a good job developing his other defenders. Parlour's problem isn't that he's an arsehole it's that his head is up his arsehole.Zulus Thousand of em wrote:Ray Parlour just spouting on SSN saying that Arsenal need a good English centre half and Gary Cahill would fit the bill.
