Wanderers v Liverpool
Good time to play this lot.

Alonso to come in? Not sure.....seems to be indicating above that Ricketts will switch over should Steiner be fit enough to start^^^Coyle went with just 17 players to West London, naming only six substitutes, and his squad will be further depleted when Paul Robinson misses out on the New Year’s Day trip to Liverpool through suspension, “We’re low on numbers right now but we’ll get on with it because there is a tremendous spirit in this football club,” the manager said.
“Gretar Steinsson got a knock on his knee the other day and I think Liverpool might come too soon for him. But he’ll be given intensive treatment so we’ll see how we go.”

Would never happen but I'd have young Blakeman starting over Alonso anyday.
Re: Wanderers v Liverpool
As a youngster growing up in the N west; Liverpool was all you'd hear about. And for their achievements in the 70's rightly so. I remember Alec lindsey, Tommy Smith, Hughes, Keegan, through to Souness, Dalgleish and Rush et al. All players who embodied that 'spirit' of Liverpool FC. Even though I've always hated the b*stards, one has to acknowledge the history and legacy as a top English and european side. However, looking at the bunch of muppets they put out on the park now, I can only think of perhaps two, maybe three players who you could say have that Liverpool 'spirit', and could have played in teams of the past. The rest of 'em are feckin' useless and lucky to be earning a living in the premiership, never mind at Anfield. And for this reason, there's never been a better time to take 3 points at Anfield. 0-3 COYW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And sadly, could cost nice old Roy his job............................

Can't help feeling Liverpool will be keen to exploit our charitable status as first port of call for failing clubs and flopping managers (see last night for details).

Re: Wanderers v Liverpool
Liverpool away might be a bit too much of a baptism of fire for young Alonso. He was given a torrid time at Burnley by Chris Eagles. I'm guessing JLS is well out of the picture?
But some of our best performances have been with that type of adversity in the ranks. Young Basham stepping in at right back against Arsenal, Cid and Braaten contributing to a draw away at the Allianz, it's been done.
It is a good time to play them, as it was Chelsea. I'd just like to see us be a bit more simple in possession, keep the ball, play it to feet and try and get the captain involved with some crosses and set pieces if we can win some.

Re: Wanderers v Liverpool
This season's seen some startling and unpredictable results. Inconsistency has replaced the tired old routine of top-four versus the rest. Maybe lower clubs are improving, maybe the big lads are getting complacent. Whatever the reason the lines in the sand are getting washed away. Our biggest need is to be consistent and keep grinding out results. At season end not many will question how but rather why? In our case it's attitude and belief we haven't had for too long plus incresed work-rate and commitment. Teams like Chelsea, with limitless funds, buy up all the best players then buy up all the second best to stop anybody else having them. City and United compete for the same and the rest of the clubs with more money than us follow suit on a descending scale. We'll win some we're not expected to and probably lose a few we expect to win, that's life.
In reality, if it's all based on best teams in terms of players and money spent we really fall somewhere low down in the second third of it all. Finishing the season anywhere better than that is progress and will do for me.

Re: Wanderers v Liverpool
Chelsea have been roundly criticised for their lack of squad depth of late, so not sure whether that still holds water - but I completely agree about the big sides becoming complacent; we're finally getting that belief back that was eroded under that other nice person and we'll be disappointed not to come away from Anfield with anything less than three points come Saturday.
Re: Wanderers v Liverpool
I do hope that we get a win at Anfiled, we are good enough but are we lucky enough and will the ref let it happen.
Torres will be backheeling the ball all over the place and Gerrard will be hitting then all night from 30 yards hoping that one will go in and the diving in the penalty area from everyone in red will be laughable to see. But the ref may be conned into giving a penalty or a linesman will go to sleep over an offside, whatever it is will mean yet another loss at Anfield. I just can't see it any different no matter how well we play, may be a cynical negative view but we are dooooomed I'm afraid!

Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED
Re: Wanderers v Liverpool
Never been a better time to play Liverpool at Anfield? We were saying the same about Chelsea and the same about Liverpool when we played them at home. We're notorious for not taking full advantage of situations like this and Liverpool will feel firmly favourites despite the current league position. I'm not expecting anything from this fixture other than the players putting in a good performance.
Hopefully a chance to see the likes of Alonso in action to see what level of strength in depth that we have.

Well, that's the fans sorted. Now for the players. I worked in Liverpool for twenty years on and off and never heard this sort of depression before.Salford Trotter wrote:RAWK in meltdown

Re: Wanderers v Liverpool
One thinks we've lost two on the bounce.
One thinks Owen Coyle is only there to impress the board so he can have the Liverpool job.
One thinks the only reason to go is to see if Chung Yong Lee (currently getting ready to play Qatar Hero) is worth a bid.
Now I can see why Liverpool fans only tend to think of their club as the only thing in the world. When they try anything else, it's all wrong.

If we beat 'em, we go ten points clear of them.
Sorry. At least now you all have somebody to blame. Take the heat of Bishy and LK for a bit.

Re: Wanderers v Liverpool

Dear John,
You said yourself recently that there have been many poor short term decisions taken at this football club in the recent past. This is undoubtedly true and one of them was the appointment of Roy Hodgson as Liverpool manager. In all his 35 years of management there was absolutely no evidence that he had the experience required to manage a club of the stature of Liverpool FC. Despite this, for six months this site has supported him as best we could, as we did not want to exacerbate a problem not of your making. We were happy to trust your judgement, to allow you to get your feet under the desk, to appoint a management team and to make the right decision on the manager when you were ready. We were hoping that in return Roy just might prove capable of limiting the long-term damage to the club during that time.
Unfortunately it is clear from events so far this season culminating in the inept display last night that the consequences of keeping Roy Hodgson in place are now so pressing that immediate and decisive action is required from Fenway. His position at the club is no longer tenable. He appears to have lost the ability to motivate the team, a team of internationals and World Cup winners, and he has certainly lost the backing of the Anfield crowd with 40,000 openly showing their derision at his inept tactics.
The bond between Liverpool fans and their managers is strong, stronger than at any club in the world, and in normal circumstances it would be unthinkable to see the crowd turn on the manager as they did last night. If there was ever any coming back from that for Mr. Hodgson he closed that door himself in his post-match interview when he criticised the support of those same fans. Sorry, but those fans will be standing on the Kop supporting this team long after Roy Hodgson has gone and they were supporting their club in the only way they know how, defending it from a man who is corroding it from the inside.
We wholeheartedly agree with your strategy of concentrating on what is in the best long-term interests of Liverpool FC, even if it is at the expense of short-term popularity. We now believe however that we have reached a tipping point and that Roy Hodgson's continued presence in the dugout is now detrimental to the long-term future of the club as well as our immediate future this league season.

Does laughing at that make me a bad person? I mean I know I probably shouldn't, but does him being blind mean he can't be a modern football fan cnut? I mean, reading it, it is quite funny. He does seem a lot like a modern football fan. Kinda sums it all up for me.Liverpool Fans on RAWK wrote: I felt so totally miserable watching the Wolves match, I started to really not care if we won or lost. I know it's a bad attitude, but when you are watching millionaire footballers who couldn't create a decent passage of play and a goalscoring opportunity in ninety minutes if their life depended upon it, and when you know that even three points from the match is only going to take you to ninth or eighth at best, and you know that any results are only going to strengthen the long-term position of a manager now despised by the fan base, you stop caring.
I don't have a lot of money, so I haven't been to a home game in a long time. I feel sorry for the people that pay good money to go and watch this nonsense.
I hope we beat Bolton, but.. what difference does it make?
I know this feeling, mate. i've never actually been to anfield. I live in cardiff and i'm blind and trying to get a guide up there seems to be impossible. now however, i'm asking myself if I want to bother with all the travel expenses and ticket costs and what have you, if i'm going to have to sit through something like that.
i'd stopped trying to find a guide last season because I didn't want my money to line H&G's pockets. it would've been a waste of 40quid. I think it would still be a waste.
Lets not forget though they are the best fans in the world, who would never turn on a manager. I mean they have done, but that is clearly all his fault. Because they would never turn on a manager.
