I think Mark Davies and Holden could work just fine.
People are talking about Holden like he's an out and out attacking midfielder, and he's not. He gets up top, sure, but he also gets back and makes vital challenges. He's clearly our midfield fulcrum, and if he and Mark got a little more time together to get some consistency I think it could work.
You can argue that Davies ia a luxury, but I'd counter argue that it's also a luxury to have a player who just breaks up play and does nothing else in Muamba!
If our defenders weren't shipping so many goals (and lets' not pretend that Jussi has been at his best this season, some of the goals he's conceeded, why does he keep dropping to his knees?), we could play Davies and Holden easily, but lets not pretend we don't ship goals with Muamba in the team, or that we ship any more/less when he isn't there.

As others have said Mark Davies doesn't work in a 4-4-2. He makes good runs with the ball but all too often loses it and we end up being left wide open through the middle of midfield. Long and short of it is for me we need to find an all rounder a bit like Holden in an ideal world or hope that Muamba sorts his legs and feet out!Choppers wrote:I think Mark Davies and Holden could work just fine.

Classic transfer standoff. We're saying "we'll wait till the summer then and you'll get nowt", they're saying "well someone else might get him now then".
Someone will blink, hopefully them.
Another line from Nixons report.
"Bolton want to keep as much cash as possible for other signings in the window"
Does anyone truly think that if we buy Wheater for 2M plus that we'll spend any other money in this window? Because I don't. We wanted Pratley but wouldn't spend 2M on him as he's free in the summer so we're waiting till then. We want Vela on loan and there will be some kind of fee, but I imagine with the idea that he'll get some game time the fee won't be much.
But I just don't believe that we're saving the pennies on Wheater to buy "more players this window". Think thats a bit of postitive Coyle spin. Surely we're saving the pennies because we're broke?

Does mention interest from Villa, Everton and Wolves all of whom could pay more than us.
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

But as for Everton "paying more than us" Moyes has said they can only do loan deals, or something to that effect.
My understanding is that CURRENTLY only Wolves and Stoke have shown any interest in Wheater but neither as serious as us and he prefers a move to us anyways.
Re: david wheater
Everton are in the same bracket as us at the moment in that they have no money, I just can't see Wheater displacing Huth or Shawcross at Stoke. So the same as Petrov then, only leaving our left back completely on his own.BWFC_Insane wrote:As others have said Mark Davies doesn't work in a 4-4-2. He makes good runs with the ball but all too often loses it and we end up being left wide open through the middle of midfield.

I think its a bit different for a left winger and a central midfield player.Choppers wrote:So the same as Petrov then, only leaving our left back completely on his own.BWFC_Insane wrote:As others have said Mark Davies doesn't work in a 4-4-2. But that aside Mark Davies would be great in a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3. In a 4-4-2 I'm just not sure he's solid enough, or got a strong enough all round game. He's a little lightweight and he does work hard to track back but when he gets back doesn't have much of a clue. He's one of them you need to really give a free reign to but our system currently doesn't allow that.

Re: david wheater
From the daily mail transfer "insider" column, aligning with what Nixon wrote earlier
Bolton manager Owen Coyle made his move for Wheater last week, as exclusively revealed in Sportsmail, and looked to have agreed a deal until Boro began to move the goalposts.
Wolves, Stoke, Aston Villa and Everton have all shown interest in the 23-year-old centre half and the general understanding was that Boro would sell for £2million now rather than risk losing the player for nothing in the summer.
However, Boro are understood to have tried to get the deal up to £3m for a player they valued at £7m only 12 months and that is a step too far for Bolton.
Wheater has great potential and could bed in ready for Gary Cahill's expected departure in the summer but Coyle wont pay over the odds especially with a tight budget.
Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea may all like Cahill but no-one has placed any bids to persuade Bolton to cash in yet.

Except that Coyle stated categorically in his post match interview on GMR on Saturday that he's not even spoken to Tony Mowbray over Wheater moving to us. Just saying like.

Re: david wheater
Well, this is in Boro's local rag, today.
TONY Mowbray will be looking for a slice of the transfer fee as £2.5m defender David Wheater prepares to fly the nest.
The Boro boss will need to bring in a replacement as quickly as possible as Wheater contemplates his projected move to Premier League Bolton Wanderers.
Wheater has held talks with the Trotters over the weekend, after being withdrawn from Boro’s FA Cup third round debacle at Burton Albion.
Contract talks are ongoing, but Wheater is confidently expected to agree to the move across the Pennines.
Mowbray has revealed that there are other clubs interested should Wheater turn down the move.
However Bolton are the only club to have put a bid in writing.
The offer was accepted by Boro on Friday, and the player was sent to the Reebok instead of the Pirelli.
Wheater must decide whether to accept the chance to join Bolton or gamble that another club will come in with a written bid, and therefore give him options.
Mowbray has declined to accept that Wheater will definitely end up at Bolton.
He said: “It’s his decision. If he’s still here at the weekend he could be playing for us at Bristol City.”
Few people, however, expect Wheater to be still on Teesside by the end of the week.
Mowbray knows that the Redcar defender is leaving and he will be talking with Boro chief executive Keith Lamb about his options.

A fee was agreed Friday, Wheater was here over the weekend, but Saturday apparently Boro changed their minds on the fee, which I'm guessing is why OC denied anything about the deal as he probably couldn't say anything else at the time.
I suspect that some of the other clubs chasing Wheater perhaps have persuaded Boro to try for an auction.
Re: david wheater
YES! Get him signed. Cyril Columba and Erica. Get in.
Oh, and Mavies the left winger cutting in from the left is something I wouldn't mind seeing tried out, since no-one else has claimed that position for their own.

Coyle chose his words very carefully in the interview i thought. He said he hasnt spoken to tony mowbray but that is entirely plausable and doesnt mean the deal isnt moving along. I would imagine these days that multi million pound deals are conducted between the chairmen & there is nothing to say gartside & gibson havent been speaking.CrazyHorse wrote:Except that Coyle stated categorically in his post match interview on GMR on Saturday that he's not even spoken to Tony Mowbray over Wheater moving to us.
