King Kenny was scouting players so perhaps the Liverpool thing rumbles on, though I doubt it.CAPSLOCK wrote:Surely, the Liverpool link died with the departure of Hodgson

The actual report re Fiorentina was that they were looking to sign him for the summer but that if Bolton would accept "a small bid" then they might try in January. However, I can't see us taking a "small bid" now.
Of course they could get him signed on a pre-contract now.
My suspicion is we'd have a decent chance of keeping him ahead of Fiorentina but who knows?
Re: January transfer window...
yeah - losing him would be a big blow - which is why my comments were predicated on the "if we're gonna lose him in the summer"BWFC_Insane wrote:I'd keep him in the hope we can persuade him to stay here beyond the summer.
that still seems very likely to me - a 10+goal striker - with plenty of bedded-in premiership experience - available on a free.. there are plenty who will offer him a more attractive package than we are likely to be able to...
IF we get 4mill for him now - and IF he goes for free in the summer - then to justify turning the cash down, his retention will have had to have caused us to finish 8 places higher than if we had let him go...
and... IF letting him go makes a place for us to be able to guarantee Vela the kind of action that Wenger is demanding - then it is hard to see 8 whole places being the effect....
however - that leaves us with a big empty striker-berth to be filled in the summer - but then if Elmo was going anyway - we'd still have that (but not the cash from the sale...)
as I said - it is far from clear cut either way - there being so many variables - and i'd make a shit manager!

Re: January transfer window...
more mumblings....

and...Owen Coyle could yet be forced into a January bid for Darren Pratley - with Roberto Martinez keen on bringing the Swansea star to Wigan.
Talented midfielder Pratley has scored four goals to help Swansea's promotion charge this season and he's being tracked by a number of clubs.
His contract expires at the end of the season and Coyle is keen to wait until the summer before landing him on a free.
But the Bolton manager's hand may be forced in January as Martinez is plotting a move too, having resigned himself to losing Tom Cleverley back to Manchester United.
Bolton might decide to hang on to precocious winger Danny Ward because of their lack of first-team bodies.
Ward has just returned from an injury-hit spell at Coventry where he featured only five times in three months after requiring a hernia operation.
Now nearing a full recovery, it was thought Ward would be sent out on loan once again this month with a list of Championship clubs - and former side Swindon - all monitoring the situation.
But Bolton manager Owen Coyle is ready to give Ward a shot in his first team, which has been ravaged by injuries.
With six senior midfielders currently unavailable, Coyle could name only three outfield substitutes for Bolton's match against Wigan on Wednesday night.
And the situation could scupper any further loan moves for flying winger Ward, with Coyle anxious to hold onto all of his fit players.

Re: January transfer window...
Ward will probably be on the bench till people get fit then he's off to Preston on loan. NITK, I just really reckon.

Re: January transfer window...
Although its talksport there could be sommat in that Pratley story as he's definitely a target longer or shorter term.
Now I wonder if he is the reason we're according to Nixon "trying to save money for other players" and why we're haggling with Boro over Wheater and seemingly stalling a bit. Would make sense.
Perhaps Coyle is hoping to buy both outright in January?

Re: January transfer window...
Elmander is finally getting plaudits and he's full of confidence, scoring and in a team will excellent team spirit.
This is only opinion, but he really doesn't strike me as the kind to want to do all that again, mid-season, goodness knows it took him long enough to "bed in" at our place!
That said, enough money and he'd change his mind sharpish, no doubt.

Re: January transfer window...
Ward coming back. Another option on the left as neither taylor nor petrov has made it their own.
Re: January transfer window...
Why do people keep saying neither has made it their own?
Taylor most certainly has, imho!

More so than Petrov has, in any case. However Petrov did look quite lively against Wigan; I just hope he doesn't get all uppity about his super sub status.Choppers wrote:Why do people keep saying neither has made it their own?

I think, with respect to all, my gran would've looked lively coming on at the end of that game. Two VERY tired teams. Interesting he didn't look as lively against a spirited York by all accountsSonsOfThunder wrote:More so than Petrov has, in any case. Re: January transfer window...
allegedly we're snapping up defenders like there's no tomorrow!!
he's a CB - and a shortarse - 5'11 and a bitBolton are hoping to finalise a deal to sign Argentine ace Santiago Gentiletti.
Gentiletti, 25, has been earning rave reviews in South America and is keen to show he can compete in the Premier League.
Bolton boss Owen Coyle is hoping to bring another defender to the Reebok Stadium as uncertainty continues to surround the long-term future of Gary Cahill.
Gentiletti plays for Argentinos Juniors and is hoping to finalise his move to England in the next two weeks.

Re: January transfer window...
Taylor has certainly done better than petrov when starting but the bit I've seen of ward suggests he can offer something different.Taylor is very much a left midfield player whereas Ward seems able to play a little more like a winger and seeing as Coyle brought petrov in I assume he wanted a player who worked more as a winger on the left.Either way it's another option and it would be good to see Ward in the mix.William the White wrote:Correct!Choppers wrote:Why do people keep saying neither has made it their own?

That Argentinian lad is the one we were linked with months back isn't he?

Re: January transfer window...
Haha fair enough HRG both teams were running ragged which made Petrov look spectacular in comparison, but I don't think he was 'fecking shite' as you put it dibble. We were pushing for the winner and he provided countless dangerous crosses into the box, something Rodrigo (yes, I know he scored our goal) had generally failed to do all afternoon. I was unable to watch the York match, but it doesn't surprise me that his attitude was poor.officer_dibble wrote:He was lively! As for the Argentinian, I remember him being mentioned a while ago (mostly because of what his name sounds like) but then talk died down. Has he been capped a sufficient number of times for Argentina to come to the Premier League? I've never even heard of him except on these boards, but then again Maradona did call up a silly number of players in the years leading up to the WC.

Petrov is the laziest c*nt that I've seen in a Wanderers shirt since Scott Sellars!
May the bridges I burn light your way

Don't know how reliable this site is but it looks like he might have dual citizenship (Argentinian & Italian)...SonsOfThunder wrote:.... If true then there wouldn't be any work permit problems.
