Re: Lofty - RIP
Never saw him play like many others.
But I've met him a couple of times and he's a real gent and a true legend, a word that is overused these days!
RIP Sir Nat!

Re: Lofty - RIP
I'll come back again to say more about my feelings and memories, but for the moment just this .... "thank you Nat, thank you".
"His life was gentle, and the elements
So mix’d in him that Nature might stand up
And say to all the world ‘This was a man!’”

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

Not old enough to see him play but had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions, a real gentleman and wanderer through and through.
My main memory was attending Burnden to buy a ticket and being turned away as the office had not yet opened, as I walked out of the door I was met by the immense Lofthouse who after speaking to me and discovering what I wanted proceeded to open the office and sell me the tickets. I was totally in awe of meeting a true Bolton legend and I am pretty sure he recognised the admiration for him in my eyes.
Rest in peace Nat and may peace be with your family.

Now that's a story of what he was like!
Keep 'em coming.
I'd rather support Bolton than be you.

Yeah, all I can remember about meeting him was as a young lad I had been invited to sit in the commentary positions at Burnden for the GMR commentary on a 1 1 draw v Sheff U (think Blake scored for us). He was very busy after the match in his role but took time to sign me an autograph and ask about me and my time following the whites.
Some more stories in here would be great.

Sad, sad news. Even if he isn't with us anymore he will always be in the hearts of anyone who supports Wanderers, a true club legend, forever with us. RIP Lofty.

Re: Lofty - RIP
The world legend is bandied about like confetti these days, but today the town of Bolton, the fans of Bolton Wanderers & fans of football in general, today we lost a true legend. He was the greatest player ever to pull on a Bolton shirt, no question, no debates, no doubts. . He was the Lion of Vienna, he was the saviour of our club ( Lifeline ) he was our Sir Nat. RIP
If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England

Was a friend of mum and dads from his days at Castle Hill and was his postie for 7 years always a smile and a kind word and always asked how `little Rita`(my mum) was.
A true gent and one of the real footballing club greats.

Re: Lofty - RIP
Huddersfield Town fan here,
Nat was a legend from the bygone days of footy. We could all do with players like the Lion in the modern game to display to the players what real commitment to a club is.
Hoping there'll be a minutes silence across the leagues on Sat.

When Bolton were relegated to the old 4th division against Aldershot i was stood in the Manny road stand at Burnden park, after the game i sat down in tears Nat Lofthouse was stood on the pitch side he saw me came into the stand put his arm round me and told me to cheer up son we will be back, i blubbered summat pathetic like "Bolton are my life" he smiled and came back with "what do you think they mean to me son" sums it up really, he was and always will be Mr BWFC,
"The lion sleeps tonight"
God bless you Nat and rest in peace.
