I too am not a fan of this minutes applause business. We have been known to applaud when we concede a corner or when a mascot stacks it in the warm up. show your respect and shut up. you need the silence to be able to think.

I think it'll be silence. Especially with it being on Sky, it's always much more dignified and respectful

I think the Lofthouse family should decide which would be more appropriateseanworth wrote:As far as I am concerned it depends on the situation. I could easily see a minute applause being very respectful of Sir Nat. He lived a good long life, and a minutes applause celebrates that fact. If someone dies prematurely or tragically then a moments silence is certainly more respectful and appropriate. I feel that for Sir Nat we should be celebrating the joy he brought to the Bolton Wanderers and the town of Bolton as he gave us many great moments of happiness over the course of his life.East Lower wrote:The minute applause is very disrespectful, if you ask me.
Prefer the silence. Much more dignified.
I also understand that most of you will disagree with me, but to each his own.
Who's that coming up the hill boys,
The Wanderers are coming up the hill boys,
They all laugh at us, they all mock at us,
They all say our days are numbered,
Born to be a Wanderer, victorious are we....

I'm absolutely gutted that this is the one home game this season that I absolutely cannot get to. I'll be there in spirit, as will Nat himself. Do it for him, lads.
Re: Bolton Vs Chelsea
Minute's applause introduced to stop folk booing right? You won't hear any of that on Mon. I'd prefer silence, though as stated, it should be up to the family.
With this 'let Bolton do it first thing', I appreciate the sentiment, but it's not really going to work with us playing on the Monday is it?
As for the game. If ever there is a time for an SKD masterclass, this is it.

I've always prefered a minutes applause for sports stars. Don't ever remember silence accompanying significant moments in a football ground, its a more fitting tribute and in a manner more befitting to the role they performed. For me.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Significant moments as in goals. As in what they do in a football ground.

Re: Bolton Vs Chelsea
While I think gratitude is certainly a more fitting emotion than sadness, a minutes silence just seems more traditional.
That said, does it matter? The sincerity will be there either way.

I can see both sides. I get where you are coming from, but personally I feel a bit odd clapping 'at' the death of someone. I went to a tribute game for a young lad who passed away recently and his dad asked for a minute's applause before that. In the end, of course, if that is what means the most to the family then that is what counts, but it felt 'odd'.Lord Kangana wrote:I've always prefered a minutes applause for sports stars.
